What is the cut out for, right next to the lock bar to the right side...it's not on the other side
 
I always interpreted it as a continuation of the chamfer thats on the lock bar... if you look from the butt of the knife down the lock bar at the referenced cut out, you can see its pretty symmetrical to the other side. Only the gap for the frame lock throws the eye off, as well as the angle left from when they machined it.
 
I would think since it's a right handed knife, the cut out is for index finger relief when you chock up on the blade. Otherwise, without the cut out the index finger would have pressure from the Ti instead of resting on the flipper of the blade. That's my guess.
