Hi guys I have a ZT 801 that I used I EDC last week . Last I used it for was on a mango . I went to use it today and it was some what stiff . When I went to close the blade it's not as smooth . So I thought some of the juices from the mango got into the Bering went to oil it and still not as smooth as before I notice this blue ring on the knife visible now . I don't know if it's normal or not . Can some one tell me if they can see the blue ring on the picture . I did not take it apart . It looks like something went wrong . can someone post a picture similar to mine so I can see if there is the same way . Thanks

I just checked mine and it's the same. I've had mine for over 6 months and I've never noticed it myself.

The blue ring is the retainer for the bearings, it's perfectly normal and would be a much bigger problem if it wasn't there. I'd guess there's some gunk on the knife, wash it under warm water and put a drop of your favorite lube on either side of the pivot and it should be fine.

Blue ring is normal.

Wash, rinse and then and dry. Use an air gun to blow out anything in the crevices including around the pivot and lock. Add a couple of drops of oil to pivot area.

Everyone else beat me to it. That blue ring is fine. Do what the other guys have suggested and clean the knife then lube it back up. It'll be good as new, hell probably better.

You did not notice the blue ring before. It has always been there.Every 801 looks like yours. My question is why did they choose to use blue instead of black as the color?

Yup, totally normal. The blue washer is really visible on the black DLC version. If you use water to clean out the pivot just make sure you get it all out. Those bearings are not corrosion resistant. Oil it immediately.

Also consider investing in quality torx drivers to disassemble your 0801 (and other knives). One time my 0801 felt gritty no matter what I did so I took it apart. Turns out a piece of fruit skin (I like to peel fruits using my pocket knives) or a leaf got in there so I washed it all out. After one beach trip where I brought the 0801 I took some time to disassemble it and clean out all the sand and watermelon juices that got in there during use. Just something to think about.

Could just be you got stuff on the detent ball area and now it's not moving as freely as you'd like.

As others have said, the blue ring you see is the KVT. There's a picture in this thread that shows what the KVT looks like. You can see that it does get pretty close to the lockbar, so you will be able to see it through that gap.

As for the opening movement, if you don't want to disassemble it, you can try cleaning it out under hot, soapy water (open and close the knife several times under hot running water or with it submerged). Take care to dry it thoroughly after washing. Compressed air can be handy there. If you want to put a drop of oil in after, that's fine as well. The KVT really doesn't need it though.

The sugar must have gunked up the bearings and made it stiff. That's why you shouldn't play brass instruments if you've recently consumed sugar.
Edit: glad to see the problem had been resolved.

Something very similar happened to my 0801 after cutting up oranges, limes and lemons for cocktails at a BBQ. :)
The juice gets in there and gums stuff up. Easy to deal with as you now know.
