ZT 200 Question

I received a ZT 200 blem in the mail from KershawGuy yesterday. First off, great service from Dave! Second, awesome knife, I love it! I don't think it's too big to EDC, fits my hand like a glove, razor sharp, and I couldn't find any "blemish" on the knife at all. But here's my question: It came with the clip in the tip down position. I would like to switch it to tip up so that I can put a lanyard on it possibly. However, for the life of me, I can't get the screws to tighten in all the way in the tip up position. Am I going crazy or am I missing a little tip or trick to get the screws to thread correctly? It was driving me nuts, so I just put the clip back to tip down for now (which worked fine). Also, just to make sure, what size torx are the ZT clip screws? Thanks in advance!

Not an answer to your question but this might help you getting the knife in and out of your pocket easier.

When you have the clip where you want it sand the area where the part of the clip that makes contact with the scale. I did this with mine and it makes it Much Easier

getting the knife in and out.

I would call not email KAI and talk to them about your problem. They are great to work with. Remember there is no warranty on a blem.

A number 6 torx fits the clip screw on my 0200.

The clip screws are T6 as far as I know. I had the exact same problem with mine - the threads are virgin and don't bite easily in either the G10 or liner. I solved it by carefully applying a little more downward force as I was tightening the screws to "set" the threads. After that mine functions normally when unscrewing.

With that being said, I have heard of a few 0200's which were not tapped - maybe make sure before you damage it with the extra force. Hope this helps!

Clockman: Thanks for the tip on the sanding. I may do that once I get the clip where I want it. And yes, I know about the warranty. That is why I am sort of hesitant about calling them, got a great deal on the blem and don't want to complain about it to Kershaw.

Rav3n: That may be the problem with the threads. I didn't apply a lot of force as I wasn't sure what the issue was. When I look inside at the liner, I can see the holes for the screws, so it appears they are tapped.

Thanks for the replies.

I had that same problem too, I switched to longer T8 torx screws. The 0200 uses extra long screws from what I understand. If I remember correctly, I got them from knifekits.

I've had that problem on a couple of Kershaw knives. Sometimes the threads aren't drilled in that well. You just have to keep trying until it meshes and screws in. A little pressure helps.

Find a 2/56 Tap that is size you need for most USA made Kershaws/ZT knives. Found mine on ebay for under $5 shipped. While you are at it get a #50 bit and you will be set up to drill and tap your own clips.

You can request screws from ZT if you mess yours up. Be sure and tell them that you need the longer screws for the 0200 or you may get the short ones the 1st time like I did.

I had the same problem with my kershaw clash. I was at AG Russell store and they said they would fix it. They took it back into the factory and fixed it .they said they had to use a small Allen wrench and put thread tight on it.

Upon further review this evening, it appears that the threads were stripped / flattened a little at the end of the screws. Which means they will not catch to start threading (of course I discover this after I took them out). So I am currently sans clip, but attached a lanyard so I am just carrying in my pocket with the lanyard hanging out a little. I guess I'll have to give Kershaw a call tomorrow and see if I can get some new screws sent out. Those sizes aren't available at hardware stores are they??
