zt-300 making weird noise

When i have my zt 300 opened and i shake it, it sounds like a small piece of metal in banging around in the area of the blade pivot. I think it may be the spring that assists the blade to open. The knife opens and closes fine but the rattling noise concerns me.

Has this happened to anyone else?
Any ideas what it might be?
 
When the blade is open there is no tension on the torsion bar. There is generally enough grease in the cut out for the torsion bar, that it won't rattle. If its been cleaned with anything that might dissolve the grease, or gotten dry from long use, it may rattle audibly. It is not any real issue other than the noise.

If it bothers you, disassemble the knife and add a touch of grease in the torsion bar pocket.

The same thing happened to me with a ZT0400, the EXACT same ratteling noise, but it still whipped open like it was supposed to and locked up great. It almost sounded like the handle was hallow and there was something in there, then it just stopped one day. really weird. but I know the sound.
 
BTW. I know it wasn't the spring because it made the noise open and closed and in between. it really sounded like something was inside the hollow handle, but I know, or think they aren't hollow. But it didn't bother me too much because the knife functioned just fine and then it stopped one day. I know this probably doesn't help. I'm just saying the same thing was going on with my ZT, but it didn't effect anything, then it stopped. So don't worry too much about it as long as it still opens and locks correctly.
Also check all the spacer screws, And grease it up like Kneedeep said
 
Mine does the same thing. I have always assumed that it was the spring. No worries. I think its normal.

There is a hollowed out recess in the handle scale. This is where the torsion bar resides. Without some sort of grease in this recess the torsion bar can and will rattle when the blade is open. Its a super easy fix. Put some grease in the hollowed out recess.
 
oh good, mine was making the same noise. I figured iyt was the torsion bar. Thanks for makin me feel better!
