Is the ZT350 a good defensive and EDC knife.I don't carry a firearm because of medication reasons so I'm looking for a good $100-$150 dollar knife as money is tight.
The 350 has so many different models and prices it gets confusing.
Now I'm carrying a Kershaw 1620H3, a Camillus TL29 and an ESEE Izula.I want to replace the small 1620 with a bigger folder.
I would like opinions.

as an EDC, it's wonderful...for defensive purposes; probably not so good...not pointy enough LOL

for defensive purposes its a good slasher but a bit of an awkward stabber for me due to larger tip grind geometry

The ZT0200 has a lower tip geometry so better for stabbing imo

I Say Get A Spyderco Para2 Or A Spyderco Military If You're Going For A Bigger Tough Knife For EDC And Defense.

A knife is a horrible choice as a defensive device - especially without proper training. A better choice would be a good strong pepper spray. When you are threatened - or think you are being accosted - spray liberally - then leave. Your attacker, or the guy just panhandling, will be able to walk the streets another day. Pull a knife - and you might lose it... or, when your body is found, it may be stuck in you. The worst scenario - you cut up a panhandler. Knife wounds can be horrendous - and debilitating.

Now, step on a snake's head - and cut it off - fine - that's an EDC function. The ZT 0350 should be fine. Great for some cardboard box reduction - if you can re-edge it! My first ZT was my 0301 - $189 shipped then - keeper! I also have a few more expensive current ZT's - fine knives. I would be in dire straits if I had to reach for a knife to defend myself... perhaps why I legally carry something louder.

This is really good and only about $37-40 - could get a second one to completely blunt for training and be out only $75-80.

Does amazing things slashing and poking things - 4" recurved FFG blade comes to a very thin edge that slices better than the thin FFG blade of a swiss army knife and the shape makes it create a huge gash with a very light jab of the point. Handle is as good or better than any other folder I've handled at any price and it's as solid as it gets. Even with all screws removed and handle scale taken off it's 100% solid with no blade play.

Had two the exact same solid and precise build and great fit and finish, gave first one to my father so he could check out the Tri-AD lock and tell me how it works for him.

Unless you got some training that would make a different style of folder work better for you it's a really solid option.

Who makes this knife?

Cold Steel makes it. They have great tactical folders for the money, but the materials they use are cheap.

I don't think an 0350 would be terrible for self-defense. But I would say maybe an 0200 would be a bit better.

Oh, and relying on pepper spray isn't a much better bet, unless you get some really strong stuff. I have seen plenty of people hit with it who couldn't have told you they were even sprayed. If pepper spray were the be-all-end-all of less-than-lethal tactics, the Taser wouldn't have been popularized, much less invented.

Also, there isn't some big mystery to knife fighting, the rule of thumb is be better than the other guy. But seriously, if it's your choice of protection it wouldn't hurt to take a class or three. Reputable trainers can be found in every state.

This plus a good solid flashlight.

Who makes this knife?

If you do go cold steel's route try a few out before you decide

Not dissing the voyager @ all but another might feel better in your hand

Eg: for SD the Cold steel AK 47 can wave open and has a nasty pommel for impact striking

Depends on how you choose to defend your self

For ZT the 0200 and 0560 imo are the best for SD
(Just my pref)

Agree fully on training if you can. There are so many things that can go wrong in a knife fight if you not careful (before, during and after)

I've carried a ZT 350KW for several years. Good workhorse knife and would provide some protection in a pinch.

Since medication prevents your carrying a handgun, I wonder if the same issues might not effect your use of a knife for the same purposes?

Just a thought, but one alternative I have found quite appealing is a good quality cane.
Provides some distance and can be very effective if things get up close and personal.
Plus the benefit of not being considered a weapon by anyone and you can carry it anywhere.
Canemasters makes some excellent ones. House of Canes is also good, particularly the ones in Dymondwood.

The meds I'm on affect my memory sometimes,so I choose not to carry a firearm. I don't worry about a knife.

If you've seen someone get sprayed and they didn't know it, then you had some seriously in effective spray. Capsicum spray will produce a visible response in any human being. They may not be in severe pain, but you (and them) will definitely be able to tell they were sprayed.

Tasers and pepper spray are in two different classes of the force continuum. Pepper spray is "non lethal," and tasers are "less than lethal." You can't really compare the two, since tasers carry a significant amount of risk. There have been literally thousands of taser deaths since they were first introduced. A notable taser death occurred near my home town, so that's why I know so much about it. It was kind of a big deal. Lol
