I have a 550 user, one of my favorite knives, and I noticed to day that it had a decent amount of vertical blade play. I adjusted the pivot, etc. but it didn't really do much. It isn;t a big concern to me, but I wondered if vertical blade play increases the risk of lock failure? If so, can I fix it myself, or should I just sned it in to KAI? Thanks

Seen this complaint a few times, seems to be a semi-common issue. Don't know how serious it is/isn't though.

Send it in for sure KAI has great warranty service they will get ya fixed up and some times send you a coupon with your fixed knife for a discount on knives .

I checked the lock and it was pretty clean. Gonna send it to KAI tomorrow. I've dealt with them before and they are great so I'm not too worried.

Loosen the scale screws and pivot then grip it and torque it in your hands while eveyrthing is loose then retighten and adjust and see what happens before you decide to send it in. And make sure the tang and lockbar are clean and lube free. You can take a woooden toothpick to clean the lockbar face. Rub it slowly and allow the wood to absorb any liquid material if any is there. You may even want to put some Sharpie on the tang at the contact points to see if that helps seat the lockbar better too.

what's the result?

Tried it and it seemed to help some, but not too much so I went ahead and sent it in. There is a good chance I could have fixed it with Reeek's advice if I didn't suck at fine adjustments in relation to knives, so if anyone else has this problem it may very well work for you.

Lube on the lock face causing lock rock is silly.

Mine is rock solid. My 0561, on the other hand, is back at ZT because I could close it without touching the lock bar. No dust, lube, etc.
