Good morning. I ordered my first ZT over the weekend (a 550). So anybody with a ZT 550..how are they for EDC? I currently carry a BM 530 (and I like it) but find it is not adequate for some of my daily tasks. I had carried an Emerson MCQC-7. I did not care for the one-sided blade, but I did like the durability.

Got my 0551 a short time ago but I absolutely adore it. It's my new edc and its perfection in the form of a folding knife

It's an awsome knife in my opinion. I edc mines and its great, not to big , not to small. And probably one of the toughest blades out

Great choice for a first zt. It is an excellent edc blade. Should handle your tougher tasks with ease, I always carried mine until I got an 0560, now the 0550 rides iwb as a backup, lol not that I need it but i just love it too much to leave it sitting at home.

I love mine. Its quite a bit different than the BM530 but for what it is it carries really well. Did you order the new or older version?

I ordered the older version from one of the dealers on the forum. It was a deal I could not pass.

Mine got me out of an elevator, so hells to the yes it's a great blade to carry. :D The flatness of it makes it ride nicely in some jeans, and the brickiness to it certainly has a charm. When that puppy comes back from ZT, it'll be one of the two ZTs I actually use/carry now. I've actually retired the 0560 to the storage case, having given away my beater to a friend and keeping the untouched one in the box for posterity. The 0550 is just a little dream, and you won't be disappointed with it.

I regularly carry a 0550 as a part of my EDC:

I just ordered a gen. 2 over the weekend. It should be here tomorrow morning. I was super excited about it till I found the video on Youtube about the blade disengagement. I hope his was just busted because of the modifications he did to his and that they are not all like that. But, I have read that ZT has outstanding customer service and should fix me up just fine if I have an issue.

That is the only one I have seen that does that if ur talking about the lock failing easily. Mine is like a vault and doesnt fail, if you are talking about lockbar stick then yes yours will most likely have it until broken in. If you get lock bar stick just take it apart and color some sharpie on the blade tang and lock face, then keep playing with it until it breaks in and the problem will be solved.

Yea, I was talking about the fail not the stick, so good deal.

I did read that those lock bars were carbodized on the 0550, is that true?

the 0550/0551 is a home run in my book. I just love the thing. Its a little big for me to carry EVERY day, but you certainly could. I liked my 0551 so much I got it a 0550BK to keep it company

I literally just got my new OD green scale from Monkey Edge (couldn't find a Hinderer original) and it has given my 0550 a new lease of life - I love it!

Forgive the quick phone snaps (one includes my Zebra Light SC80 which I am also really pleased with). Make a nice combo IMHO...

Those are nice scales. From what all I have read, it seems like the 0550 was the way to go. Now I just have to wait for it to arrive in the post. By the way, thank you for all the inputs.

I really don't think you'll be disappointed with it. It oozes quality.

As has been documented several times in other threads - just be aware that the opening takes some getting used to. Once you know that you have to push the thumb stud up (as opposed to out) it flies open...

Enjoy your new knife when it arrives...

Ben
