ZT 560 warranty on vertical blade play?

I have this ZT 560 for less than a year, maybe 6 months that I bought new.

On normal deployment, the lock up is about 80% but the blade has up and down play. To remove the play, I have to push in the bar to about 99% lock up but to close the knife, I would then have to use both hands so I can push the lock bar out of the way.

The hardest I've used this knife is for slicing my steaks and doing push cuts on paper after I've sharpened it. I don't think I've opened and closed this more than normal.

Do you think this is just normal wear or can I send this back to Zero Tolerance for warranty?

Send it in. ZT's CS is top notch.

If its an issue to you, at the very least give them a call. Send it in if they deem that reasonable.

If its a nonissue, id just keep using it :) A little bladeplay isnt terrible, they arent fixed blades afterall

I think you'd be covered for warranty work. I know a few dudes who sent in their 0550s for this kind of issue and they got completely new locksides.

Give them a call and explain your situation.

Don't hold your breathe on getting it back in a timely fashion. They have had my 0561 for the same issue since the 2nd week of December and I've yet to receive confirmation of shipping back to me. When I call (once a week) I'm told that the knife is finished but it's waiting on shipping and that "it should ship at the end of the week/beginning of next". I've heard that three times now...

This happened to me. Very pleased with KAI cust. service.

Whatever negative crap I may feel about KAI, their customer service is not in the equation. Basically I'm saying I have a beef with some of their designs and patent solicitations, but their customer service really is pretty damned decent. If you have a problem like what you're describing, send it in and you'll be taken care of even if you might have to deal with a little bs. Just take the first step and you'll be alright as long as you are not expecting unreasonable actions.

The titanium lock rubbing the steel blade will eventually wear because the titanium is not as hard. I would have thought it would have taken longer. I'm glad my 0566 has a steel lock instead of titanium only for that reason. I don't mind the little extra weight.

I would send it in. Also, when you send it in, include a note in the box stating exactly what the problem is. There was another forum member who had to send a 0562 back twice because they didn't fix the right issue the first time. KAI will also likely give you a new lockface with the steel insert if your current one doesn't already have it.

I'd say send it in,even though I sent in a Kershaw Titanium Framelock knife with 100% lockbar overtravel which has been sent in twice already and is still not 100% fixed.Right now, whenever the knife is gripped tight the lock bar travel to 100% lockup.I took it apart and saw the blade interface was not a flat with a slight incline but a convexed surface and an incline.
