I got a great deal on a new 561 at the Chesapeake show over the weekend, and really like it. Being a flipper, I realize it needs to be a little loose. I like my knives a little tighter though. Are these screws Loctited? Wanted to tighten it a little bit more, and it would not budge. Overall, I really like it. Could not pass up the price, couldn't decide between the 560 or 561, the 561 was tighter than the 560. Huge improvement over the 560/561's I saw back in April. They didn't flick open smooth, and the lockbars stuck.

The pivot is using an IKBS (ball bearing) style system except the bearings are held in place by a ABS holder. The KVT system (what kershaw calls their ball bearing system) has been meant for a smooth and fast deployment by reducing friction dramatically. You are trying ask it to go against it's nature.

I would recommend finding some thick lubricant and trying to find one that slows down the blade.

Don't put any oil in the pivot. that caused mine to get really rough. I recommend what Wobly said, Loosen the pivot then tighten. Mine was crazy tight so You'll have to put some oomph into it.

There should be little to no side to side play in the 0560/0561. The bearings allow the knife to flip smoothly with no side to side play.

To answer your question, yes, the screws are loctited in place. If you choose to tighten it down, just do it slowly, a bit at a time and check in between to so that you just tighten it down enough that there is no side to side play.

And just make sure you don't over tighten it. The second hand one I picked up was, and the bearings indented their "races".

Yup, and eventually it'll pit so badly that several things will happen- it'll develop wobble that tightening cannot cure and the balls will skip in and out of the pits so that you have "indexed" blade opening... Not good.
