After receiving my 566 I took out the torsion bar to deassist mine as Ive seen many other forum members do with mainly great results. I discovered after I took the knife apart that my knife doesnt have a detent hole in the blade. I havent yet had a chance to call KAI customer service and I surely will as Im sure theyll take care of me, I was wondering however if anyone else has had this problem. I did do a search around and it doesnt seem like anyone else has posted about it, just the minor gripes from people saying theirs is hard to open, which mine is not, in fact its pretty close to buttery smooth out of the box and should break in rather quickly.

So you're gonna call customer service because you can't alter the knife the way you want to? I wouldn't be too disappointed if they didn't replace it for you if it works like it is supposed to with the torsion bar in.

Deassisted feature is an intended design by ZT.
OP should be able to return to the place of purchase.

Yep, and if thats what CS says when I contact them tomorrow then Ill go with that. If they say tough noogies Ill just have to be happy with that. Either way its a pretty awesome edc blade that ill be happy to carry. I was just curious if I was the only one, or if they were pulling that intended feature from the knife.

I thought mine didn't then realized it just had a really weak detent.

KAI/ZT sometimes tweaks minor things from one production run to another. It is possible that the detent hole was removed in some runs. The knife was designed to function as an assisted-opening flipper, so the detent hole technically isn't necessary. I'd see what customer service says, but I don't know if they would count it as a warranty issue.

Mine is in the mail and should arrive sometime at the end of the week unless there are unforeseen delays. I'll have to check to see if mine has a detent hole.

Keep us updated, regardless. I'm curious to see how everything turns out for ya. Best of luck, man.

I emailed CS today to see what they say, havent gotten a response yet but Ill keep it up to date as i hear back.

So my 0566 came in a day early! I have a detent hole in mine (ser. 2660). Now to break it in since I currently have to use the flipper and grab the blade with my other hand to open it...

I checked all of my inventory after this and they all have pretty darn good detents!
