ZT 566 with M390 or ZT 562 with 204P

I've gone over the specs of both knives and the size difference isn't an issue. Yes there are other differences and the 566 is about $20 cheaper. I've read about the steels for both knives, and I've heard they are "basically" the same steel by different manufacturers. Would you rather pay $20 less for the 566 or is the 562 with 204P the better way to go?

I was pretty much running through the exact same scenario as you (although I originally started by looking at a 0566 Elmax). I would (and am) going with the 0562 in 204P. If you look on the used market, you can find the 0562 in M390 (Just keep an eye on the exchange).
 
The 0566 is assisted opening - I like the 0562 better, just a personal preference.

The 0562 is a great piece, the 566 is a very good one.

The difference in blade steel will not be noticeable.

I have a 0566BWCF and a 0561. The fit and finish and small little details are just done better on the 0561 than the 0566. The assisted opening is something, but its super easy to remove (I did on mine and enjoy it much more as a manual flipper.) The 0566 is a tad small and heavy/dense for its size for my liking and the 0561 is gigantic. The 0562 is right about in the middle size wise-for me. I can't speak to the steels.
 
I think you should decide based on the size of the two knives rather than m390 vs 204P. IMO I like the size of the 562 as it's very similar to the size of the XM-18 3.5. I think it's the sweetspot XM-18 sizing that people really like.
 
I just ordered the ZT 0562CF with 204P from EKNIVES.COM. I hadn't heard of the site before but from what I read here, it seems like a reputable site. They had a 10% flash sale that just ended and I picked it up for a nice savings compared to every other site I checked out.

And Shazb0t, good advice. I based my decision on size. This knife is real close to my Manix 2 in overall size and blade length and I'm sure I'll be happy with it.
 
Nice choice on the 0562CF. It's a great knife. I've got the G10/Elmax version, but the design is fundamentally the same.

As for the Manix 2 comparison, it's pretty close. Here's a shot I took with my LW Manix 2 S110V. The 0562CF is definitely beefier (granted, I have the LW Manix, whereas the G10 is probably heftier) and has about 1/2" more cutting edge. The ergos are also great on the 0562, and I really like the style of deep carry clip they used on it.

I also have the LW Manix2 with S110V and a Dragonfly 2 with the G10 handle. Between the three I think I'll be set for EDC knives! Well at least until after I get married in January. Then I'm sure I'll add more!
