Hi there, getting really intrigued by ZT 801 CF but can't pull a trigger yet.Anyone uses them as regular EDC?Trying to get some reviews of some actual usage of this knife. Please chip in with pics and reviews.Thanks.

Been using my ZT 0801BRWCF for 2 weeks or so. Has some scratches. So far the brownwashed finish has held up really well albeit I can see the PVD coating coming off very quickly.
Mostly cardboard at work, and random stuff at home.

It's an okay cutter don't expect a lightsaber though. Works well enough. The M390 on this blade is pretty good.

You won't be able to find an 0801CF from any dealer. Sometimes they will show up LNIB on the exchange but the 0801BRWCF is available new from House of Blades and at least one other place.

As far as the knife goes it is an outstanding flipper, looks great and is well built. The downside is that it isn't a super slicer, but more than adequate for the task. I like the 0801 well enough that I have one of each flavor so far and bought an 0801CF for my Son as well.

IMHO, it is a good buy and I see no reason it could not be used as an EDC. I prefer a lighter knife for my main EDC (ZT0770CF, Manix 2 S110V, & BM 940-1 are the ones I prefer) but for those who want a great looking mid-sized EDC, this one would be a fantastic choice.

Quick pic of some of my ZTs but only the one 0801:

Why do I see so many people asking "does anybody actually use this knife"? As if it's wrong to use a $100+ knife:rolleyes:

Not trying to hijack, but who cares if other people use their knives, I've seen people safe queen knives under $100, I mean come on... It's a knife, it's meant to cut stuff and be used, plain and simple.

If you wanna use it, then use it!. After all, it is a zero tolerance, it's tough as nails regardless.

The only reason I asked is because I did not see to many threads or videos of use or testing of this particular knife.Want to get one but before I do just looking for some advice and reviews of ZT 801 CF.I do have more knives I use for EDC but ZT 801 CF really looks like the one.

It's a simple concept really, but not everyone gets it. Some knives actually increase in value, especially when they are limited editions. This is not the case with all LEs, but some do better than others. So if someone wanted to keep a knife pristine, in case they need to make some quick cash down the road; do you think you'd get more for a LE that is beat up and used or new in the package? If you need an example, look at the 0454 or the 0888 versions, they went for over double retail almost immediately after release and lottery at Blade respectively.

I understand, I just always chuckle because I see posts now and then like, "you actually use a sebenza!?!". Or "I'm gonna safe queen this super blue ladybug" :rolleyes:lol

I hate the word "safe queen", makes me gag:barf: I'm glad you're willing to EDC an 801cf, that's a true man:thumbup:

Yea, I've seen those price jumps before; but I just think it's nonsense. Like I said, if you wanna use it, use it, don't use it based upon the fact that "the other guy" uses his LE folder. I see all these people putting their new cruwear manix in a safe, never to be used and I just laugh as I go beat the hell outta mine.

To each their own though, right?

I think that goes for anything RevDevil. New> Used in terms of price.

The 0801 seems to be kept in low enough price. I suspect the fact it's based on a production model is helping keep the cost down.

It's still sad though to see knives go into safes, or be treated like safe queens.

Anyways if you guys remember I did a video of a ZT 561 being abused...

Anyone want to see one of the 0801BRWCF?

Also have and have been using an 801BRWCF a bit. It's a pretty darn thick grind but doesn't seem to do noticeably different than my SNG or Southard out of the box (only other 4mm stock folders I own - since reprofiled to more acute angles; haven't done it on the 801 yet).

It works OK for cutting. Not really what I'd call great. Certainly, a PM2 or BM 710 cut through stuff a lot more easily and aggressively (though again, I think a reprofile will help the aggressiveness issue some).

On the other hand, it is just mechanically perfect, amazing action, great fit and finish. I'm keeping it and carrying it and enjoying it and if I want to cut open an apple, I've usually got a Northwoods #48 with me too that works just great for the finesse jobs.

In terms of weight, as long as you're not wearing athletic shorts or slacks it seems to do pretty well. Jeans or other similarly dense fabric pants/shorts make for no problems at all.

I don't like the term "safe queen" either. It sounds weird and out of place. Luis, do a video on the 801 Brownwash.
I'm surprised that the 0560CBCF didn't get too much love, it really is an awesome knife.

No safe queens here either.Remember my son telling when I bought mint 2008 Umnumzaan;"dad ,this is very nice knife hope you not gonna use it".Well next day I did used Zaan as he should be used. From cardboard, zip ties, food prep, preparing the fire, you name it,it is a great knife with a purpose of pleasing his owner.:)

I have a LE Busse that I sent across the country to have a custom kydex sheath made for by a fellow forum member. He e-mailed me after he got it asking if I really wanted him to do it, since the kydex would scratch up the blade being pulled in and out. I really appreciated his concern, but I told him to just shove it in and out a couple dozen times before he sent it back to me, and I wouldn't have to worry about it myself.

My BrownWash 0801CF cuts like a laser. Cut some paper with it to try it out and was pleased with how razor sharp it is.

That struck a chord with me. I am a VERY casual user, as I don't do much heavy-duty stuff at all. But I do carry a Zaan every day. And when I screwed up in my homegrown plumbing repairs, and my kitchen sink blew, (no shutoffs) and I had to go out into the front yard to the main shut-off valve, and dig my way down to it, and pry off the cast-iron lid to the pipe that contained it...(Whew!), my Zaan proved its worth with only a couple of nicks out of the edge. I'm kind of proud of it that way. I'll have to repair the edge one of these days...

I carry my 0801CF just about anywhere other than the office. It carries fine in jeans and I really forget it's there. I don't baby it and it goes in the same pocket with my keys and change. A few scratches but no big deal. When I work around the house I grab my old beater 0801. I've beat the crap out of that knife but it cleans up great and a few minutes on the Sharpmaker and it's good to go again. Seeing as how the CF version is M390 I suspect if I "hard used" it, it would take even less maintenance.

For what it's worth, I have lots of knives I collect and don't use. That damned 0801CF just begs to be carried and used.

Great story Sonny.
