Hey all. I was browsing the forum and saw that some of the ZT knives were being discontinued after 2014. Is this true? And if its true, which series will be discontinued? I am just asking because I plan on getting myself a knife, particularly a ZT 0562CF M390 and a ZT 0550 for my birthday in May, and I just need to know if they will or will no be available for purchase. Regards

The good news is that common/ordinary production knives will generally sell for less on the secondhand market. So 0550's should still be around. The 0562CF is not a limited edition and it's a fairly recent release, so it should still be available after 2014.

True. The 0300, 0550, 0560, 0561 are on that list. The 0562/0562CF are new regular production and definitely NOT on the list. As Apec mentioned, the 0550 will still be available on the secondary market from time to time. :)

So, hopefully they will be around come spring, as that is my birthday :D. I plan on getting myself a pimped out ZT 0562CF. Thanks guys, appreciate the info!

ZT 0550 has been discontinued but readily available right now. Can't predict if they'll be available from a ZT dealer come May 2015 but I'm sure you can find one somewhere but perhaps not from a ZT dealer.

ZT 0562 & 0562CF are both regular production knives and they'll be available for quite a while. Unfortunately, right now the supplies are nearly non-existent.

They disco'd the all time great ZT the 0550? That is like BM discoing the 710 or Spyderco doing the Millie in. :(

damn, I guess it had to happen sometimes. I wish I could get over my bearing obsession because I really like the 0200sw. Now If I could jam some ikbs under the hood Id buy one.

Mine is just as smooth as some of my bearing flippers. Haven't even polished the washers. If you didn't know it didn't have them you would most likely think it did.

Trust me. I know. Its just one of my quirks. Some people ONLY collect serrated or non serrated. Some people they HAVE to have a bone handle or damascus blade. For me, it has to have 2 things. Bearings and a flipper. I can excuse the flipper but the bearings are a must even if the washers were more smooth. My reason is I dont like dialing in knives at the pivot. I love my bearing flippers because the friction is so reduced at the pivot that you can 90% of the time over tighten them and still have it work. A washer knife is really finicky. You have to find that perfect spot where the is no play and if you go a short and curly over that they there is too much stiction and friction and it suffers. Bearings mated with a proper detent make it painless and idiot proof.

Still cant completely decide if I want a spyderco M390 knife or a ZT m390. Is there a difference on how they treat their blades? I have heard that the edges can be slightly faulty on ZT's, due to burning, but after sharpening, its a great blade.

I feel the same way about the 550 I have. The blade falls back into the handle just like my 0560s and the 801 I had.

This attribute though has little to do with the pivot and its washers. The cause of resistance in a folder has more to do with the detent and the lockbar strength. I prefer bearings for other reasons unrelated to perceived smoothness.

Lol, and here it comes...

You are overcomplicating a very simple situation. Get what you want. Remember when you "hear" things about one knife or another, that is one opinion and one opinion only. You should find out for yourself. Every single brand from electronics to cars to guns to knives to clothing has fans and haters. If you can figure out if the critical commentary is based on fact or random "popularized" online opinion, that is a solid starting point. Now, quit freaking out and pull that credit card out and get it done, no need to agonize over it.

Ok, hows this, I'll throw that idea out the window, get my self a ZT, and call it done. There, thread over, you wont see a topic like this from me again.

Oh man that's too bad.. I happen to have a ZT 550 on the way and it looks like an amazing model..
