Can you guess which one is not a Busse?

When you guys said the ZT0301 was built like a tank you weren't kidding. I can't wait to put this bad boy through its paces. Thanks for all the feedback regarding this model. I think I have found my folder. And do not worry, I will treat this bad boy like a folder and not a fixed blade. Although probably not far off.

Real quick:

Lighter than I thought it would be. Tight lock-up. Beefiest frame-lock I have ever owned. Razor sharp out of the box. Handle ergos are first class and I love the texture. I often find the handles on folders too small for my tastes. This one is perfect for me.

My thoughts exactly. Go beat the bejesus out of it and let us know how it holds up.

I have a couple quick questions regarding the ZT0301.

(1) Is there any reason to "pimp" it with better washers or anything?

(2) I have read that the "Speed-Safe" assisted opener will eventually fail. i also read that it can easily be replaced by Kershaw or I could do it my self. But does anyone use there ZT with out the "Speed-Safe"? If so, how easily does it open? Seems like it would still open fairly easily.

Thanks guys. :)

I have the ZT-302 and have EDC'D it for about 6 months. This is the toughest folder I have ever had, it replaced an Emerson super cqc-7. You'll love it!!

you know I have held one and played with one and lOVE IT but have been spending my money on INFI, SR101 and SR77 and havent had the spare $$:(. I am glad you like yours, its the exact model/color I want.

W/o the speedsafe I would imagine it would open fine especially with how heavy the blade is, i could see it opening easily one handed.

You can read the stuff here but I don't think it will help much. I tend to think that the blade is so heavy you would have problems with the detent holding it closed but I can't say for sure.

Torsion bar breakage is pretty unlikely but Kershaw typically has a very fast CS turnaround. The torsion bars are quoted as surviving 10,000 cycles. Of course some will go more, some will go less.

If I am not mistaken the washers are phosphor bronze (they are as smooth as PB anyway) so I wouldn't upgrade but that is just me.

Edit: If you are using the knife is a wet environment you could consider Teflon washers....just a thought.

Congratulations on a wise purchase! I have the 0302 and it's heavy duty. Recently, I've been trading off between it and my Blade-Tech RIJBAK for folder EDC. (The RIJBAK is equally tough in my opinion.)

Washers on my ZT0200 are pb's so I imagine the ZT0300 series of knives would also have them.

If Jerry would just get his knife to market, we wouldn't have to dabble in these other brands....

My new Offset arrived today. What a horse of a knife. It makes my Titanium Bump seem positively dinky.

TL---I don't know you but I can tell, that ZT folder has you written all over it!! Good One! I hope this model won't discourage Busse Combat from offering a folder.

1) As mentioned, the existing washers appear to be phosphor-bronze. I'm satisfied with them...my two 0300s pivot fine.

2) Although there is a ball in the frame lock that rides against the blade during open and close, I see no evidence of any detent(s) coming into play or visible throughout the full open/close arc...the lock-up holds this blade open and the the SpeedSafe mechanism holds it closed. You'd have to create your own detent if you removed the torsion bar.

However, opening the knife with the flipper should be no problem with SpeedSafe removed...these babies are smooth. Of course, to some extent this would depend on how beefy a detent was created to keep it closed. You might not want to carry tip-up under those circumstances, either...these blades are heavy!

If the torsion bar ever fails I'll just replace it. And the washers seem perfect to me. I was just curious. I don't want to mess with perfection. ;)

Now it's time for a little testing. :D
