It's one of the best invention ever made esp for outdoor junkie and it remains one of my most prized knives.
Not entirely a folder fan my biggest concern other than the locking mechanism is the trapped gunk on the pivots:

Has Kershaw thought about making something with a seal as well in the future?

I'm pretty sure they stopped making the 0500 because it was so hard to make. I agree it's cool but from what I read in the past, it didn't seem very likely it would be done again.

I almost bought one of these. I should have. I think they're awesome. I also think once they're gone, they're gone. Don't think Kershaw/ZT would re-make it.

I alays wanted the 0500, when I went looking for them they were all gone. I might have to start the search a new.

Rev,

I remember there was a thread somewhere in this sub-forum that still offers some blems, if you don't mind.
The sealing around the pivot are TRUE genius move.

Again this makes me want to get another MUDD.

I'm going to search now. Thanks for the heads up. I definitely do not mind the blems.

Edited to add: search turned up nuffin. :(

I think he was probably thinking of Kershawguy, which he is out of them and has been for a while.

The MUDD is one of my all time favorites. I've had three, but sold/traded 2 of them and this third was one of the last I believe. Sweet, sweet knives.:)

What I like is that Kershaw went an extra step in manufacturing the ZT0500 by using 7075 aluminum alloy, instead of the standard 6061 that you see in most knives. The 7075 alloy is one of the strongest of the aluminum alloy's.

Bring Back the MUDD!!!
Bring Back the MUDD!!!
Fight the Power!!!!

LOL! Serioulsy, I do hope Kershaw reconsiders. I too had an opportunity to purchase one at a very reasonable price, but passed. Wish I hadn't. It's such a unique knife, very different from all the other ZT's. You can still find some on the auction sites, but they're selling for approx $400 and most are blems. I was thinking a MUDD in S30V would be very nice.

I hate to say it, but it seems to me that the biggest problem with the MUDD was the hawk lock, in part due to weak blade retention (at least on mine), but also sealing the slider on the side looks like a big hassle. I think they should do another MUDD, but with a framelock this time. An open back framelock doesn't care too much about dirt, as long as you keep gunk out of the pivot that's what most people worry about anyway.

I say keep the basic shape of the 0500, but change the lock.

That's not going to happen. The MUDD is a G&G Hawk design, as is the Hawk lock. My MUDD has great blade retention.

The ZT0500 is one of my favorite HD folders. I bought one shortly after they were first released, used it extensively, then sent it in for re-finishing and re-sharpening. It was serviced and returned quickly, at no charge. Superb customer service!!

When I heard that they would be discontinued, I purchased another one, and now I am glad that I did...
