I called ZT the other day to try to get a release date on their OTF Auto, the really cool looking one they displayed at BladeShow. Well, I received disappointing news, fellas. The lady in CS told me it was coming out in January. Cool, I thought! I asked her how much it was going to cost, figuring, 2-300 bucks. She told me $85.00 or something like that. I knew something was wrong so I asked her if she was sure it was an OTF & she said it was one of those ones you manually slide open the blade. Jeez! She went on to say that they're discontinuing their autos. I wonder why? Didn't they sell? Too expensive to make? I could see that for an OTF but not a side-opener? I'm glad I got one at least. Maybe it has something to do w/ their parent co., Kershaw? Just an FYI, maybe someone can illuminate. News so important, it bears repeating.

CS was wrong, I don't ever see the OTF hitting the market. Proto's are just that, proto's.

It is true that the Auto's have been shelved. No time on the factory floor. Too many mainstream items to build.

Maybe it has something to do w/ their parent co., Kershaw?
As a point of accuracy, Kershaw, ZT, and Shun, are brand names under the Kai USA umbrella.

Some people have something wrong with them where they have to do everything twice.
You should'nt make fun of them.

Hey Thomas: How does a loyal Kershaw owner, who thinks you have a very nice haircut, obtain one of those prototypes? :D

heh...Well unfortunately the proto's got put thru the R & D paces...in broken pieces now...

The horror! A Zero Tolerance OTF would be one of the most prized in my OTF collection.
:(

P1GEONPOO: FYI, I did not type my thread twice. I originally posted it in the Auto Section but was advised to repose it here and somehow it was double posted. I may be challenged in other areas but repeating isn't one. But hey, thanks for pointing that out to everyone.

Come on man lighten up. You don't have to explain yourself to me. Don't take things so seriously in future it's bad for your health.

Charles -

In reference to your original question, it sound like Customer Service thought you were talking about the Ripcord - it's a Kershaw manual OTF Knife that deploys the blade via a knob on the sheath. You pull it out and that motion deploys the blade.

The ZT OTF Autos are on hold for now. Like Thomas said, the reason is simply that we have too much to do. We are working to increase our capacity (and efficiency) so that more of these kind of cool projects can become reality.

So at some point in the future the autos will be back right? Cause otherwise I'll have to miss my precious green Breakout that I'm desperately longing for... :/

I am not commenting on future plans - I'm just saying that we have other projects right now that take priority.
