Hi All. Considering getting a Hinderer XM-24, however, in looking at them on the manufacturers site, the metal back side looks almost identical to my ZT 0566. Does one of those companies make the backside and opening mechanism for the other? Thanks.

Has your blade been refinished on the 0566???

It's marked on that side of the blade "Hinderer Design".

That's because they are designed by the same guy (Hinderer), using AutoCAD, sharing and co-editing computer designs, etc. Your ZT was manufactured and QA'ed by KAI, the XM-24 is manufactured (and QA'ed) by Hinderer, however.

I don't have the 0566, only the 0560 and 61 from 2011 to compare to. While superficially, the 0560 looks like a slightly smaller XM24, there are significant differences in the details, though: the XM24 has a heavier/stronger Pivot, stronger stand-offs and screws, etc. Plus there is nothing the size of the XM24 in the ZT line-up (wrt closed length, weight, blade thickness, etc.).

Well that is a good reason! Thanks for the info.
Yeah they replaced the blade under warranty and it’s blank (black stone wash now). I guess I didn’t recall it saying that on the original one.
I was thinking to myself "How the hell is this even a question? IT'S MARKED RIGHT THERE ON THE BLADE! Oh, maybe it ISN'T on HIS knife for some reason".

All good!

:D

I’m curious, what happened to the blade that it needed to be replaced?

I sent it in for a much needed free sharpening. From my professional cooking days I have a bunch of whet stones and such, but with a black black I didn’t feel like messing it up. Anyway, came back looking like a blind third grader held it to a grinding wheel for 5 minutes on one side. Sent it back again for new blade.
