Hello

My first “high end” folder has been a ZT0350. It has been my favorite knife for almost 3 years and I had many variant of this knife over the years.

i had a good connection with the ZT brand for almost 10 years and I have owned more that 10 of their models.
I recognise the quality of the machining and of the material they use but has time goes I have the feeling the “built like a tank” area is now over

i have sold almost all of my ZT collection but I still have a 0470 and a 0393 and they are excellent knives IMO

but has time goes I am more and more attracted by Microtech

I have a LUDT and a UTX-85 D/E that impress me a lot

mode those who have more experience with these 2 brands, how do you compare them?

I give the nod to Microtech, but my experience with both brands pretty much mirrors yours. I’ve owned many ZTs over the years but don’t have any at the moment. They don’t interest me much anymore but they make great products in my experience.

I carry my Microtech LUDT very often and will likely never part with it. I love everything about it. Had a UTX 85 and sold it pretty recently. It was awesome (and my first OTF) but I’m planning on an Ultratech as the 85 was just a little smaller than I wanted.

What Microtech would you want next after the two you already have?

I have several ZT’s and have fondled quite a bit more.
I have one Ultratech and have fondled quite a bit more.

ZT quality has always impressed me. Also, even their “lighter” models always feel very solid. I have to give ZT the nod on that respect.

That said, my EDC preferences have changed and I’m not nearly as pumped by TFF’s and “overbuilt” as I once was.

I’m smitten by Microtech at the moment. It’s taken lots of restraint to not grab a SOCOM, a UTX-85, and a second Ultratech. If they had a midsize Dirac I’d be all over it.

All I ever need to know about which company gets my money.

I give the nod toward Microtech. I have 8 (i think) ZTs, and they are are quality knives. They were my first "higher end" knife.

However, I get more enjoyment out of MTs, and after having a CRK, I dont think I could settle for less when it comes to a frame lock.

Microtechs are nicer and feel more premium

I've got 38 ZTs (36 Folders/2 Autos). I've got 4 MTs (All Autos).

So, for folders I give the nod to ZT and for autos I give the nod to MT, based on what each does best.

I only have one ZT: an 0301. I love it but don't really carry it much. It's heavy, and the blade is so thick behind the bevel it's not all that useful for everyday stuff. But it does seem as bombproof as any other folder I have (except maybe the Cold Steel AD10 or 4 Max Scout?) and it has undeniable character.

I have three Microtechs. I think they are a step above the ZT in quality and fit/finish. The Microtech Mini SOCOM Elite is one of my favorite knives; it feels both incredibly light and rock solid at the same time.

Microtech, all day long. Their top dog dresses like a closeted vampire from 2004 and has made some questionable ethics choices in the industry but they make truly great knives. ZT makes quality knives too of course but they always seem to have one or two little things that bug me.

I have two ZT's that I still EDC in my current rotation: 0220 and 0801TI.

Microtech overall is a bit to tactical for my taste now, great knives but more than what I'd need for an EDC.

I would trade you a mint condition utx 85 if you have a zt 0462 that you want to get rid of.

I have two of each a 640 & 301st and an ultratech & a halo v!!! ZT really doesn't catch my eye to much any more. Microtech does on occasion! Their qualities are top notch for their chosen arenas.
