Specifically, the Zero Tolerance 0560 vs the Microtech Socom Elitie, not the brands in general.

Let’s just Say both are free, both are drop point (Zt is spear point, but oh well), and resale value doesn’t matter. But you can only pick one….
Which one would you take and why? (If you choose other, something around $300, and USA made)

Just for fun, I’m curious what you guys think of these knives, they are kind of similar but different, If that makes sense.

I have lots of ZTs, but I would probably pick the MT every time. Short of a work folder, MTs are what I carry most often. My ZT are mostly forgotten in my drawer.
Thats funny, I’m the opposite. I have an Ultratech, a Socom elite and a bunch of ZTs. I haven’t used the MTs yet, I carried a 0909 for most of last year, and I loved it…
I carry the small version (0566) often too, and I like that one.

When u say you carry microtechs, are you referring to the Socom model, Autos, or something else?
I do like their new MSI and especially the Stich, but I would like To leave those out of this conversation, just for the fact that I plan on getting a Stich, (or both) but not until the hype/price dies down.
I like both companies, I just haven’t carried these 2 specific knives yet

Thanks for the reminder. I just ordered a socom elite. I had a ZT and it had serious issues. I know that's comparing "brands", and who knows, maybe my socom elite manual will have issues. But i want to try it.

Well i hope you get a good one! Quality control is just better in general now IMO, especially for these kinds of knives, across the board, so that is something to consider, and a point for the MT (the 0560/0561s are almost 10 years old now I believe)

the 909, IMHO, was the last ZT I really liked. It was a tank and was built to work. It would probably be the last ZT i would part with.

I carry mostly OTF autos when I'm not working in the dirt. I just really like the feel and quality of the MT autos. They feel solid and high end. The ZTs just kinda feel flashy. I dunno. I really liked ZT up until they just went away from the bruiser stuff.

I appreciate your opinion, and I ageee with some of the newer ZTs being a little too flashy, but the 0560 is a tank, I don’t doubt it would be a good work knife, for me. (I mostly just break down some boxes here and there at my current job, and having any kind of stainless steel is a plus).
Also, the Socoms are tanks too, both are definitely overkill for my needs

Also, I did think about getting a new Magnacut Ultratech, but I honestly think a few sheep at work would see me using it and say something 🙄 I don’t want that attention, especially since they are illegal here, if I didn’t mention that lol

Do you have the 0452CF? I've been debating grabbing one for years. Push me off that ledge!
It’s an awesome knife, but not for the prices they’re asking nowadays. They seem to hike everything up $10-$15 every few months.
If you get a nice one off the exchange for $230 or so it’s worth it, the $280 or so they’re asking is REALLY pushing it. (Same with the 0308s being almost $400)

Gotcha. That's good info. I'm in Canada, and the retailer I buy from is selling for $308.86 USD (after conversion). A bit too steep it seems..

Way too steep. ZTs tend to drop significantly in value (even NIB) on the secondary, when they’re still in production. The discontinued ones can be pricey, like anything else.

I have the 0566 (pretty much a less expensive and slightly smaller 560), and it is a tank. Great work knife that isn't too large but capable. I just never warmed up to it.

Did you ever try taking the torsion bar out? It should still flip, push-button style…, the detent isn’t great, kind of like an older XM-18 on teflon, but I think the A/O is a huge reason they weren’t even more popular. That’s the only thing I don’t love about those knives, so I deal with it lol

It’s close! I’m pulling for the ZT, not that it’s going to influence my decision either way lol

I like the blade of the MT better but I like the construction and ergonomics of the 0560 better

Rather than any of those I would pick a Spartan harsey or an XM24

Give me the ZT0560 every day of the week, and twice on Sunday. My favorite is the ZT0561 though, just an epic knife.

I never did simply because it was an impulse buy. It's in a drawer somewhere. I kept the AO on my 350, but I prefer the 303 without the bar and cranked tight.
