ZT warranty

I looked through the ZT warranty but I didn't see an answer to my question. Can I send a knife without the steel lockbar insert to ZT to have one installed? Has anyone done that? I have a few knives I'd like to upgrade if that's possible. Thanks for any input.

For what's it's worth I sent a zt in a while back for blade play and one was added to fIx it. Came back with sold lock up.

They will replace the locking side if you are having problems with lockup. If the current models use an insert, then it will have an insert.

If you send, say, and old 560 in for lock slippage or vertical play they are likely going to replace the lock side which now has an insert. If your lock doesn't have issues then they won't do anything unless you call in and talk to a supervisor about it then the might be able to sell you one (but don't hold your breath).

Thanks for the responses gentlemen. I have two 0300's and an 0550 that I want to update, but the only thing I've ever noticed is a little stickiness between the titanium and steel. Would that be enough to make a case for an insert you think?

I don't know that minor lock stick would be enough to justify replacing the whole locking side. For what it's worth my 561 came back with an insert when it developed lock rock (as most untreated Ti framelocks eventually will). You can always wait for that to happen and get it replaced when it does. In the meantime, a thorough application of sharpie to the lockface and blade tang should mitigate the stickiness issue.

Wanting an old version of a product upgraded to the latest and greatest version does not qualify as a warranty issue. I would either wait until you do have a problem (if there ever is one), contact customer service and ask about paying for service to be done or sell yours and buy the latest version.

Making up things or bending the story to try and get them to do it for free is abuse of their warranty policy.

For what its worth, I've been carrying and using mine everyday for 2 1/2 years now. I've only had the lock stick a couple times and have had zero issues with blade play, lock rock etc.

I have a user 0551 with a bit of lock rock, and the lock tends to slide all the way to the other side at times. I might send mine in and see if they can get it tuned up. Good thread.

I so agree!

I definitely don't want to abuse the policy, that's why I posted the question. I agree with you about buying the latest versions, which is why I own those too. I just wasn't sure if adding the lockbar insert was a valid reason to send in a knife. A friend of mine sent his 0550 in to be sharpened and it came back with the insert. That's what piqued my curiosity on the warranty policy.

Thanks for all the input everyone.
