Am looking for a big tough folder and have narrowed it down to more or less these 2 contenders...

any opinion?? is the framelock on the skirmish stronger than the liner lock on the ZT?

If you could only pick one for all purpose, survival, SHTF situation, utility, SD, you name it..... which one would it be and why??

I'm not a big fan of the Skirmish design and I haven't held a ZT. That aside the Skirmish is built solid as far as I could tell. I wouldn't be concerned with the Skirmish being able to hold up with other folders in it's price range and type in a survival situation.

I cannot speak to the ZT as I’ve never handled before but the BM 630BK has been in my EDC rotation (along with the Manix and Ontario Hossom Retribution 1) for the past year and a half. I like the fact that the Skirmish is such a large, stout knife but is narrow enough to carry all the time in your pocket without discomfort. I’ve used mine for cutting heavy rope, rubber tubing, lots and lots thick boxes and small branches without any problems at all. Lockup on the Skirmish is rock solid (sounds cool as well) and with all of the use mine as had it still has absolutely no blade play at all. The portion of the frame that makes contact with the blade for lockup has not worn down at all and is still hitting at the same spot as it did when it was new out of the box.
Hope this helps.

Hello thought I would add one of the best knives I have ever seen, then let you decide. This is not my knife! Miguet posted this pic. I think its his, but I'm not sure. But now I have to get a Skirmish to beat on.

WOW.

I have a Skirmish and was thinking after buffing out the "rainbow dots" what to do, what to do....that reshaped blade and holes is a freaking great idea.

Now I need to find someone to re-grind the blade.

-as to the original question. I have a Skirmish and fondled the ZT before trading for a Manix. Now imho the Manix is the best single blade folder you can get. Not for the money either as I could have my choice of fancy customs...for big folders its definitely the Manix.

Other not so costly options:

-CRKT CASPER/CRAWFORD
-CRKT M16

up the ladder a bit

-SPYDERCO Military

I have a ZT 0200 and love it. I have never handled the BM....

My 3 favorite large folders are Strider AR, Spydrco Manix and the ZT.

The ZT is my number one large folder. It gets my vote over the much loved Manix because well I hate finger choils and the tip is to thin for MY uses.

If one thinks the Manix is large the ZT is well super sized, although smaller then the Strider.

One thing the Zt is much thicker then the BM Skirmish.

If I had to pick one out of the 3 I own( and for the reasons listed) I would pick the ZT. I wish i could help more but i have no first hand use of the BM.

Sounds good.. it appears that the ZT and the Skirmish fulfil different needs. Which would be a better all round one??

I would say the Skirmish because it has s30v. It also has a thinner blade=better cutter. Thicker blade=better pry bar. Skirmish better cutter, ZT better pry bar.

I usually carry smaller folders, however, I do have a skirmish and I love it. It takes abuse very well, and locks up solid.

I do not own a ZT so I can't offer any opinion.

I have my Skirmish in my pocket right now, it's my new favorite, it is very strong and very well built.
