I posted about getting a ZT0200 and ZT0400 about a week ago, well things changed a l;ittle. The pe ZT0200 was sold out so I decided to go ahead and get the ZT0300 in place of the 0200 and 0400. Those two will be for next month. I had a 301 at one time but I'm just not a fan of the one side titanium, one side G-10 construction method. At least Kershaw does put a thin steel liner on the G-10 side. So I'll have this one tomorrow and I'm hoping, with all the good stuff said about it, that I will like it better this go round. Of course it will be hard pressed to root the ZT0500 MUDD out of my pocket!!:D:D

OK, so the ZT0300 has arrived. Right now it is riding in my right front pocket, tip down. First things first, and there is no doubt that this is one more heavy duty folder, just what I like! Overall it is fairly flat and wide and doesn't make itself hard to carry. Though it weighs 8.6 oz's, it feels lighter. The fit and finish are excellent as is the action and the lockup, with about 1/3 of the blade tang being covered, thus leaving room for any wear that might occur. This framelock is as solid as the one on my Tyrade as in lockup this lock stays put and you ain't going to push it over any farther than where it already is. The lock has enough tension so that you should not push it over to unlock accidently.

I'm still undecided about the titanium/G-10 construction method, but in holding and using the knife it dosen't seem to make any difference and you tend to forget it. I'm glad that Kershaw went with a full steel liner on the G-10 side, but it does make that handle thicker than the all ti handle, again no effect in actual use I wouldn't think. I do wish it had a higher mounted clip as in the tip down position about 3/4's of an inch sticks out of the pocket. Being summer and the fact I weart cargo shorts now, it is an easy ride and really not that noticable, but come jean season......

All in all I'm pretty pleased with this purchase and I do like this folder more than I dislike it. I'll be carrying it for awhile now to see how it works out. It certaintly has more positives than negatives, at least in my eye's!!:thumbup::D

what did the knife set you back..?

Check over at the pharmacy. It is the same as the 301/302 series of knives. In other words, no premium for the all black DLC coating.

Designs than only have G10 on one side inspire me with somewhere between intense loathing and moderate ennui. That is why I was so surprised to like the ZT0300 that I have. I think you are correct that the liner on the G10 side helps it to avoid the cheap feeling I associate with the other versions of that style. The fit and finish slams the door on that other source too.

Why the hatred for the Ti/G10? I actually wish my 301 did not have the thin steel liner on the G10 side. This would make it more like my SnG's. I don't think SnG's feel cheap and they have a pretty good rep for taking abuse

Nevermind. I won't derail this thread any further.

I like the ZT0300. This one is mine:

I read where someone put their ZT30X back together without the liner. You loose the A.O. but the knife becomes lighter and symmetrical.

I'm just old school anal I guess. I would love to see a 0300 with two titanium handles. I'd be on it like stink on dog dookey!!:D

So far I've carried the 0300 for a couple days with today making it 3. Actually have had no problems with the construction when I cut something so I don't guess it really matters, although the unsymmetrical sides do disturb my analness at times, I think I can live with it. I really do like the wide blade and the handle is very nice to grip. It will not replace my ZT0500 MUDD, but it can become a companion!:D
