ZT0301: lock bar stop or not

I've noticed that there seem to be two different versions of the Zero Tolerance 0301. Some have a lock bar stop, and some do not. (I apologize if I'm using the wrong term here; I'm referring to the disc mounted to the frame on the lock side, overlapping the lock bar, that prevents the lock bar from being bent in the wrong direction. I don't know the technical term for it, if any.)

For some reason I was under the impression that the version without the lock bar stop was the older version. However, knifecenter.com, in response to an email inquiry, says they are selling the new version "as pictured". But their picture shows the version without the lock bar stop. I checked ZT's website, and the photo on their website also shows no lock bar stop.

So...which version is the older one, and which one is current? Which one is better, or preferred? Are there any other differences between newer and older versions?

The steel insert that acts as a lock face also doubles as a lock bar stop.

I'd say the newer version with the steel insert is better, because if the insert ever wears down (which is pretty unlikely) it's replaceable.

Use the search tool. This has been covered a ridiculous number of times. Especially since this 'change' was like 2 years ago.

It's a piece of hardened steel screwed into the lockbar where it meets the tang of the knife.
The steel should last a lot longer than the titanium as a lockface, and if it ever does wear out it's replaceable.
It also doubles as an overtravel stop for the lockbar.

Yup. Well documented hear. If you can get the new one with the insert and no LBS, go that route. That said, I have the old version and have had no problem with it.

Thank you arskrg and craytab for being helpful, informative, and willing to participate in a discussion.

The newer 301s or 30x whatever model is still produced still have an over travel stop. Older models had the hinderer style disk. New models the piece of steel on the TI acts as an over travel as well as a steel on steel contact vs steel on TI.

I'd go sTeel on steel if I could find it . I have a 301 with TI no insert and hinderer lbs . No slouch at all. If it ever failed (I've owned a bunch and never had a failure ) zt would take care of it .

Really? It's still shown on ZT's website with their current models, with no mention of discontinuation. https://zt.kaiusaltd.com/knives/knife/zt0301

I'm not familiar with the steel insert...where exactly is it? Is it only on the version without the lock bar stop?

Look on the lockbar if you see a torx screw it has the insert . Also AFAIK the 301 is the only model currently still being produced . You may can find the 0300 or 303 with the insert I don't know .

I've been using my old 0300 for a few years now; I use it like I hate it and it takes it in stride...

The lockbar contact patch on this knife is huge compared to many other Ti framelocks I've owned and handled so the steel insert was an unnecessary addition IMHO.

Even older pic; made my own copper LBS & bead:
