zt0302 stripes questions

I have some questions about the stripes on the zt0302.

1) Do they scratch easy. If do some whittling will is mess up the stripes.

2) Are the stripes smooth or like sand?

3) when you sharpen the knife do the stripes get scratched?

1. They will scratch, dull, shine and change from what they are as pristine when you use the knife. My understanding is that the coating is "diamond like" in that it is hard. It may be one of the best blade coatings in use for wear resistance. But the user will change their appearance.

2. They are smooth but dull. They are not slick. They don't reflect light well.

3. You can tape up the stripes, I use the blue colored painter's tape, when you sharpen your edge. This will help keep the coating from receiving too much abrasion.
