ZT030x color confusion

I liked my used 0302 enough that I'm pretty sure I'll just buy a new one and sell this one off. Unfortunately, there are no more 0302s in the world. When I'm looking at the 0301s though, I like the "brighter" green scales--there seems to be the brighter ones and the really, really dark ones, which might as well be black. The same is true with the coyote brown model like mine--I saw some very bright, almost orange photos and mine is a much more mundane brown.

So my concern is, primarily, is there actually more than just one kind of green and one kind of brown scale used over the years in the 030x line? I'll call up the seller tomorrow and see if he'd be ok taking some photos for me....I might just give the 0200 a try instead.

That has the brighter green

here's the crazy dark green, essentially black (and I did check to make sure it wasn't an 0300)

Different cameras will have different colour spaces, and the same picture with the same settings taken with two different cameras will display colours differently, to varying degrees. The colours may be tweaked in an image editing program, too, in different images.

Or, different coloured scales were used. Isn't the 301's colour officially listed as "Ranger green"?

I have a pair of 0301's that are almost 2000 serial numbers apart and the scales are identical. Very dark olive green. I think pictures on the web can be very misleading due to the differences in cameras/lighting/processing/monitors/etc.

This picture is a very close approximation to the actual color of one of my 0301's...at least on my monitor. :)

that's a little disappointing...I have a very accurate monitor....and the drab green (ranger green, I suppose) just depresses me. But I can't find any other ZT0302s out there.

To my eye it looks OD green, and it took me a few years to appreciate OD green again. :D

Here it is next to a Ti Tyrade, 0300, and Millie. Its lighter in the pic than in "real" life. ;)

Doesn't look any where close to black to me.

You're sounding slightly...color finicky

I'm not sounding color finicky. I am color finicky. But don't get me wrong--I'm not claiming that this color is inferior to what I would pick--I'm just saying the knife is more attractive to me, as a purchase for tomorrow, in a brighter green. I have 20+ black on black knives...the collection could do with a bit more pizazz.

In that photo I absolutely agree. But in the one above it, to me it's almost gray.

Again, I'm making no objective claims of color selection here, I'm just trying to figure out if I should order this knife tomorrow or just go with an 0200.

I'm pretty sure it's not the 0303...if not green, it'd be gray...I can see the green, but it's really, really dark. I'd just like to have something a little more special. I'll call up my guy tomorrow and see if he'll send me a photo of his particular example. Maybe I'll just get all the an 0200 and an 0301 and just sell the one that impresses me less.

Let's bring this back from the grave:

I own two 301's both olive drab and the color tone differs significantly. One is more darkgreen, the other leans towards a brown. Both are 301's. They are 3000 apart number wise. I got 8000 something and 11000 something.
