Hi every one. This is my first post here and I have a quick question for you.

I am set on ordering a zt550 as my first high quality knife. I like the newer generation model with the deep carry pocket clip. If I order it from amazon is there any way to know if I'll get the new one or not? Amazon shows the old version in their pictures.

Alternatively is there anywhere to order it that you all know will ship the newer version?

Thanks for the help everyone.

If I where you I'd cancel that order and order from KershawGuy. He has some great deals on the 550 right now. That's the thing with Amazon is sometimes the pics don't depict the product correctly. I've had good luck with them but others haven't.

Definatly go with Kershaw guy! Plus you could prob save some money and pic up a warehouse sale special.

Another vote for Kershawguy! And just to throw another wrench into the mix you can always get one with a black blade from him ;)

Hey guys thanks for the help! I've heard about kershawguy but never knew how to order from him.

Now I can't decide if I want the black blade or not...

Also what are usually the "blemishes" on the knife? I assume its nothing major.

Thanks again!!

Any defects are cosmetic in nature and will not affect the performance of the knife. Most blems I don't even notice what's wrong.

Also, just so you are aware they also dont come with the full Kershaw warranty. They generally ship minor parts and I believe they will still resharpen them for you.

Firs post on the forums....GO WITH KERSHAW GUY!!! I got a killer deal on a 560, dude rocks. He will not be beat!!

That's the opposite of what Thomas has said

ff5, blems have problems. Those that have bought blems without problems that exceed a scratch and dent should consider themselves fortunate. I don't like blems, never will. It's a big waste of our time and energies. Having to do up an annual warehouse sale is unfortunate, and I hope it goes away some day. Having blems on the market is not ideal. Explaining issues with regards to these blems also is difficult. Having blems show up for warranty is a problem. Having dealers not disclose that knives are blems is additionally an issue. Answering what an XXXX is on a blade can be frustrating. Blems having a good reputation saddens me.

HT on the SG2 was challenging, grinding them was challenging. There were a lot of parts that were not flat with these knives (blems). Flippers don't flip well with parts that are not true. Parts can wear oddly when components are fighting with/against each other. I believe the clad was a 420/SG2 marriage. The 420 can be soft, it can also scratch very easy. It sounds as if the blems you received had issues with a soft outer, and parts not being flat. It's difficult to diagnose without seeing it.

Hope that helps.

This is not my experience. I have purchased several blems from kershawguy, and I have had a hard time finding the "blem" on any of them. Then again my sample size is very small. However I will continue to order blems, they are great users.

I can't find the blem on some of mine, it took a lot of work on others, and most of the dozens and dozens I've handled at knife shows and the factory sales also had blems that were very hard to find. I have seen others with very big issues but that was a small minority.

Issues I've seen this week: ding in the handle on a Breakout, glue over runs on Blurs inserts, small spot where coating ripples and not adhered on 0100, spec of something caught in coating on a 0300, rub mark on 0561 blade.

I've bought two with only one having a defect I can find (cosmetic), but it still seems important not to generalize and say 'all blems only have cosmetic issues' when the man who would know says that definitely isn't the case.

I heard at least 3 staff at the sale tell people the knives carry no warranty but said the blemishes are cosmetic in nature and do not affect safety or use. Interpret that how you wish.

I'll most likely generalize it that way until someone comes forward and says their blem had a major defect that made the knife any less usable than a non blem. So far, all cosmetic to my knowledge. I'll keep an eye out on this thread however to see if that is not the case.
