5 minute after getting my ZT0550 in the mail. I'm sure my thumb is gonna be sore tomorrow! The only folder I open with a thumbstud is my ZT0350.. and it doesn't take much being assisted opening.. this 0550 has a wicked detent holding it closed, and it seems like sometimes, it opens real easily, and other time, I use the same amount of pressure and it just won't budge.. not sure what the deal is, I'm sure it'll just take some getting used to is all!

Love the knife already though. :D I just wish those orange replacement scales were in stock!

Think it was my smart self pushing against the framelock on the opposite side as I put more pressure when it wouldn't open... my first framelock as well, definitely gonna take some getting used to, but I do like it.

Lol... yes it will, and if it doesn't.. oh well, guess I'll just have a sore thumb all of the time, won't bother me enough to not love and use the knife still. :p

Thanks for the info on the Kershaw/ZT forum, I've seen it.. just didn't think to post in there, sorry!

I had the same issues with my 055x knives until I realized that I should only push the thumbstud UP...not OUT. When pushing straight up toward the hinge, they open just as easily as my Sebenza.

I did the exact same thing when I first got mine. I was putting pressure on the lock bar. I had to learn to keep my ring and pinky fingers closer to the clip.

You will find the right way to open it. My zt 0550 flys open effortlessly, it took me a while to find how to do it but now its lightning fast.

Everyone here has basically nailed it. Keep pressure off the lockbar, and push the thumbstud up instead of out. My 0551 opens lightning fast as well. It was definitely harder when it newer as it hadn't broken in yet, but after being taken apart, cleaned, and put back together multiple times, it's awesome.

Thanks for the tips.. still working on it.. sometimes it's effortless and just flies open, other times I only get it a halfway open.. other times it feels like no matter how hard I push, it's not coming open!

Do you guys do any wrist flick when opening it? Just curious. :)

The good lockbar pressure test is to open a framelock left handed after a difficult right handed opening. If it opens easy left handed, you are exerting pressure on the lockbar when operating it right handed.

My personal opinion is any knife that isn't auto or A/O should not be flicked too hard nor too frequently nor at all.
