Pretty sure the 1088 figure mentioned earlier in the thread were all that was needed to get to 1000 non-blems. I think the additional knives to get up into the low 1400s comes from ZT cancelling plans for the 250ish-knife ZT 0551BLK and making some more stonewashed 0551s instead. Assuming that the rejection rate on the knives from 1089-14XX was similar to that on the first 1088 (and that there were no gaps in the serial numbers), there are probably around 1300 non-blem 0551s in circulation. This must have been a pretty difficult production for ZT as I just received a factory fresh one with a serial number in the 1400's. That would mean a rejection rate higher than 1 out of 3 to get the final production of 1000. Kudos to ZT for some "real" quality control and taking a hit to make sure the product that hits the streets lives up to expectation. Fit, finish, and lock up is superb on mine although the blade is duller than most of my butter knivesAnyone have any tips for a good way to get a nice edge on Elmax? (and I do mean that as a real question)
I already have 2 0551's but I'm still hoping Kershawguy gets some blems.
