Hey there. I was on vacation in vancouver and stumbled upon one in a mall. How many were produced? Mine is #1191 and a real beaut! Thanks

Looks like 1088 were produced. Some serial numbers are much higher because not all of them passed QC as factory firsts.

This must have been a pretty difficult production for ZT as I just received a factory fresh one with a serial number in the 1400's. That would mean a rejection rate higher than 1 out of 3 to get the final production of 1000. Kudos to ZT for some "real" quality control and taking a hit to make sure the product that hits the streets lives up to expectation. Fit, finish, and lock up is superb on mine although the blade is duller than most of my butter knives  Anyone have any tips for a good way to get a nice edge on Elmax? (and I do mean that as a real question)

No special tips for ELMAX, I found it to be surprisingly easy to sharpen and polish, especially considering the high wear resistance.

I believe that there was a gap in the serial numbers. The second run started at about 1000 -- but I am not sure. The info is buried in the original thread here.

Pretty sure the 1088 figure mentioned earlier in the thread were all that was needed to get to 1000 non-blems. I think the additional knives to get up into the low 1400s comes from ZT cancelling plans for the 250ish-knife ZT 0551BLK and making some more stonewashed 0551s instead. Assuming that the rejection rate on the knives from 1089-14XX was similar to that on the first 1088 (and that there were no gaps in the serial numbers), there are probably around 1300 non-blem 0551s in circulation.

A few more sqeezed out the door since my last post. Final count on 0551's is 1301 pieces.

I already have 2 0551's but I'm still hoping Kershawguy gets some blems.

+1 Hope the price is nice and low too. I only paid $180 for mine. Watch people will be paying that for 2nds.

Without a warranty the price needs to be lowwwwwwwwwww.

Most 2nds go for way more than I am willing to pay. 15% to 20% off of street price isn't worth the lack of warranty. IMO

cool thanks guys. 1301 is lower than i thought it would be. I love mine. Heaftiest folder I own but carries well
