ZT0560 no steel lockbar insert? Reate alternative?

Recently I've picked up a renewed interest towards the zt0560 after looking at the new and improved 0550 that has the steel lock interface. After scouring around for a while I've come to the conclusion that the 0560 2014 runs don't have lock at inserts??? I'm confused because I've seen a couple on Google images that do but every seller I've seen so far does not.

Also how does the reate district 9 compare? I've seen the recent hype about them and they seem to be high quality as well.
I'm sure this is a simple question to clear up so thank you guys for any answers
Happy holidays

Sellers usually don't bother to update images when changes like that are made. Call or email them and ask if it has the insert to be sure.

Thanks, so it means that the newer production 0560 does come with the lock bar insert?

I'm not sure about them doing any lockbar inserts on the 0560 (from what I know they haven't), but I will say my friend has the Reate Hills and the Horizon, and they're both excellent knives for the money.

The machining is very well-done, most likely on par with what you will get out of the 0560, and in my opinion the textre on the Horizon is better than the 0560. It is still grippy, but not rough at all, and is more consistant than the 0560 that I had. Not to mention it is all Ti instead of having a G10 handle scale. The action is in my opinion better, but I have only handled one 0560, and I have heard some mixed reviews on how they fire and how smooth the bearings are. I will say that the deployment itself is better than any 0560 I have ever seen. The detent is much better, and the action is faster and snappier without being to hard to deploy.

S35VN steel will not hold an edge as long as Elmax, but as Reate has it treated, it is very easy to sharpen quickly, and holds the edge for a good period of time, and the Elmax from ZT does occasionally still have some anomalies from what I can tell, though maybe not that most people will notice.

The biggest selling point for the Reate knives is that they are notably cheaper, have more Ti instead of G10, have a better action and detent in my opinion, and have a lockbar insert and steel that is easy to sharpen to increase the ease of use.
Essentially the only thing ZT has on them is that fact that ZT's warranty work will be easier, and you can get a Hinderer design in the 05XX group of knives. Honestly, the Horizon B with M390 steel blade and the 0562CF are going to be almost direct competitors, and once you get to that point, it's more of an opinion thing, but otherwise I would generally go with Reate over ZT these days.

The best part about Zero Tolerance knives is that they're made here, which is a huge selling point for many folks (like me). I will choose a ZT over a Reate any day of the week that ends in "y".

ZT definitely has done the lock bar insert on the 56x series though I'm not 100% sure if it's been done on the 560 particularly.

Is ZT going to install the steel lock bar insert in all of their titanium frame lock models? Is that why they have discontinued all the flagship models?

The 550 and 560 are great knives, ive had both of them, but sold them and replaced them with the horizon and district 9. My 550 and 560 were well made, early lockup very smooth. the only thing that really bothered me was that as a lefty, the pocket clip in the tip up position really dug into my hand, I found it very annoying. Also, Ive had them so long I kind of got tired of them and wanted something new and different.I was never a fan of the g10 side ti on the other, the only knife left like that is the 0300 which I still like a lot.

Yeah I don't know for sure either. I wouldn't be surprised if they went ahead and released a new generation with it, but so far I haven't heard anything about them doing that.
I will say, if they added a steel insert, perfected their detents a little more and made them more consistent, and softened the jimping on the spine of the handle to make deployment a bit better, I would like the 0560 quite a bit more. I use my knives every day, and also like to play with my flippers when I'm thinking, so the the jimping on the spine of the handle is too harsh on my finger after a while. My Shirogorov has a perfect recess in the spine for your finger, but that's also a knife in a completely different price range.

I think this is a very valid opinion as well. I don't mind where my knives are made most of the time, but I certainly understand wanting to have something made in the states instead of out of country. I generally tend to stick to domestic products, but I also like some international designers.

My recently purchased (~2 weeks ago) 0560BW has the lockbar insert. Actually, I bought from this seller because his picture showed it with the insert; however, when it arrived it didn't have it. I exchanged it for one with the lockbar. The seller was surprised. He received a single shipment and assumed they all had the insert. Not the case.

Get the ZT.
I actually prefer no lock bar insert myself, but that is just me. I prefer the ZT over the Reate models for sure. They are no slouch, but certainly not very comfortable or made in the home land. I have had the opportunity to carry and use all of the models. The hills is very nice and comfy, next being the horizon which I love in the M390. That said I am not a fan of a recurve blade. Last is the D9. It is the single most uncomfortable knife I have ever used.
But again. The quality is amazing and will rival any mid tech out there.

Yep the 560s new production have the lock bar insert
