I have read everything there is to read on the zt0560 and this is going to be my next knife. My question is about the lock bar. the new models have a stainless end screwed to the lock bar instead of the titanium. Do I want to get the newer model because of that or could it cause a different problem being 2 pieces and all? is it better to get a higher or lower serial numbe? Thanks in advance! I can't wait!

Welcome to BF!

The benefit of the newer version is that the steel lockbar insert is replaceable if it ever wears and develops issues. Titanium will also wear faster than steel, so that may be another reason that the newer version is more desirable.

The other issue may be finding the 0560 with the steel lock bar insert. All my stock is Gen. 1 . I do have the 0561's with insert. If you have to have the 0560, you should check and see if it is even available anywhere with the insert, you may not need to make a decision at all.

I can say I had 0 interest in zt when they first came out I wont say why .

but do to a complete accident I was shipped a 0560 by accident.
It was in crap shape almost rubbing a liner and the lock could be induced to fail. But I liked the blade . I asked the buyer what he wanted he told me .
I told him id take it if he discounted all the problems.
I bought it for 90 bucks.
after a quick strip and cleaning and re torqued.
I was SUPRISED as hell that the blade went perfectly to center and I would say in pefect shape save a worn in detent (I guess I have no other flippers to compare).

but zt has EARNED a spot in my pocket and I plan on addin a 0452 and 0450 because they are just my style . That 808 dosnt look bad either

long story short GO FOR IT just make sure its not a clone and you should be happy :)

The only thing stopping me is the size...I have fixed blades that are smaller. Is it "too big" on one hand it would be pretty badass but on the other it could potentially get me in trouble with the law?

Neither my 0560 nor 0560CBCF have the lockbar insert. The former did have a little bit of stickiness when I first got it, but after a bit of wearing in, that went away. If you get one without the lockbar insert, and in the unlikely case it does end up wearing down to the point where you no longer have a solid lockup, you can contact ZT's warranty service, and they'll take care of you.

As for size, it definitely isn't a small knife. If it's legal where you're at and appropriate for the places you'd be carrying and using it, it really is a great knife and worth checking out.

Also, if you like the 0560 but want a smaller knife, the 0566 is styled very similarly, but is only a 3.25" blade. It is also steel frame and liner rather than titanium though...

True tis a big one. But after packin a bm bedlam and onslaught for a while its not that big lol.
but for as stout as a blade that you get (you need to weigh this choice for yourself) its actually pretty lite.
if a smaller option is more legal go for it

what are you looking fir in a blade? (its as individual as finger prints)

I tend to change my edc based on what im doing or where im going .
If im going somewhere where I need a stout blade I take the 0560.
if there is a 2 legged threat I take one of the previous mentioned or a fixxed as backup for my pistol. :)

I want a very solid knife to do everything I can throw at it, from cutting a box open to camping. I currently have a sog flash w and its just not cutting it anymore hehehe. I would be carrying this INSTEAD of a pistol since I can't until I'm 21... I like the kvt system and elmax sounds like a really great steel.

I live in Ohio so legally you can conceal anything smaller than 2.5" and anything bigger needs to be out in the open. does the pocket clip count as open carry? Ohio does not have very clear knife laws but that's what I have come to understand. I probably would not carry it all the time, only when I know I needed a strong blade

unfortunately Its a hard call. Where I live is the most unfriendly knife state period. But in my town the cops usually look the other way as long as you arent doing anything stupid. But even with that said most cops tell me their job is to enforce the law and not interpret them. With that they say when it comes to knives they arrest anything of question and let the lawyers duke it out. Some cops feel that the clip being exposed is fine as long as the handle is partially visible as they then know its a knife and not a pen. Other cops say they will arrest anyone with a knife over the legal limit if the actual handle of the knife is in the pocket. They want to see the knife out in the open with only the clip in the pocket. Yeah like Im gonna put a $200 folder on my hip like that. Sorry. I find knife laws to be written very vaguely. And even lawyers I talk to say much of it is a matter of circumstance. My best advice is not engage in any activity that would make someone feel you having a knife is threatening.

It will basically carry it whenever I feel comfortable to. Im not a shady person nor have I gotten in trouble with the law. I got it a few days ago and I am really loving it. Thanks for all the answers guys!

Hi Mic -

I would not let the lockbar insert issue sway you, an "old school" 560 will be just fine, and I dare say that there are very few people that have worn out a non-insert 560.

They are robust, well made folders with a great "fatty" blade.

Not the best choice for your daily apple carving, but they will cut open bags, cardboard, do light chopping - great every day carry for those tougher cutting jobs.

I have one older version that has been used a fair amount, no problems at all.

Go for it!

best

We have one 560 left with the lock bar insert on it! They are tough to find!
