My 0560 has some minor vertical blade play when I pull down on the blade. It is enough for me to hear a small click when I let it go. Should I send it back or just live with it?

That won't do anything for vertical blade play which is referred to as lock rock. I would send it in.

I would send it in with a detailed letter explaining what the problem is. I don't like lock rock at all.. That said, they will definitely take care of you!

It isn't blade play. This is lockbar flex. It isn't unsafe. On 056x models the thin part of the lockbar actually flexes a little if you put enough pressure on the blade (normally only noticeable if you are putting pressure near the tip). It is present on all of them and you can send it in if you like but they all have it. It is nothing to worry about and I have never experienced it during use only when I intentionally make it occur.

Not all have it, just checked to make sure and mine is solid, no flex.

You have to push on the tip and your average user wont even notice it, but certain ocd people like myself do. Doesnt interfere with function or occur naturally. These are my favorite production knives so that says a lot.

I see what you mean. I have to push real hard and the blade movement is hardly detectable. I pinch the tip of the blade to check for lock rock when I get a knife. I have to use the palm of my hand and grip the handle like a gorilla to get this knife to flex the lock bar.

To the OP how are you getting your knife blade to move and click?

It might just be the way the carbodizing is on his lock. My 0560 flexes easier but no click, my 0561 takes a lot more force but the lock face clicks slightly against the tang when I do it. If it is minor like he posted and the lock doesn't fail with a good wiggle I would say don't worry about it. He won't notice it in use, I forget it even exists until someone asks about vertical blade play every couple of months.

I can't understand why the lock bar flexing would take more pressure from one knife to the other. The dimensions of it (thickness and length) is the same.

What I am experiencing isn't what I would call blade play.

To get the blade to flex and click I am pressing down with minimal pressure on the middle of the spine which causes the thumb stud to move away from the handle. Then when I relieve the pressure the blade goes back to its original location causing a click sound.

Ok so your thumb studs are actually clicking back into place as a blade stop and clicking. If you have that much movement I wouldn't call it minimal. You could of just gotten one that snuck through qc somehow, it is extremely rare but it does happen just like anything. Call customer service, zt stands behind their products 100% and will take care of you.

IMO, I would send it in. It concerned you enough to post a question about it on the forums, so I would send it in. Kershaw/ZT have the best CS in the business (IMHO) and would definitely address your concern(s). Let us know what the outcome is.
