Today I force oxidized the titanium scale of my zt0561, I prepped the scale first with a green scotchBrite pad and cleaned it real good with alcohol. I then prepared a solution of boiling water and a large scoop of OxiClean detergent, and soaked it twice for 30 mins. I then rinsed it well with cold water and a paper towel to free up the stuck on residual OxiClean. It turned out really good, enjoy :) *First pic is before, Second is after*

what do you think?

Looks awesome and sounds much easier than I thought it was.

Wonder how it would look with a rough stonewash over the oxidized finish!

Stonewashing over the oxiclean job takes away a lot of the darkness and doesnt look that good, even durring short washes. I have been using this method to darken ti for quite some time, along with acid etching and stone washing blades. I posted an in depth how to with pictures on the oxi soak and acid etch in the kershaw zt forum if anyone wants to try it at home.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate it :) The only gripe I really had was how flashy the Ti scale was for a purely tactical design

Anyone know how durable a finish like this is? I'm seriously contemplating trying this on one of my knives!

I think the darkened finish would be just as durable as the original stonewashed. I don't see what would be diffent, the darkening is simply a form of forced oxidation, that essentially creates a thin layer on the metals surface that naturally decreases it ability to further corrode substancially. I immediately oiled the surface after the darkening proccess, I then caried and used it at work today. So far so good :)

The is a 0560, and an 0550 that I darkened the Ti on quite some time ago with oxi. They pop up on the excange from time to time, moving to a new owner. I try to examine the finish on them closely each time, and from what i can see, they havent lost any of the darkness, nor exibit much scratching through either. Since I did these knives over a year ago, I'd say its pretty durable.

I like it a lot. You took the knife apart to do this right? Really considering doing this and making a fancier over travel stop.

I love it. I too, was worried that it was not durable. I am thinking about trying it on my 0550 very soon.

Thanks :) I did take the knife apart for this project. I had a question, is the over travel stop Titanium? I know this process is for Ti, not sure its effects on other metals.
