Bought new and flipped like crazy for the week I’ve had it. Like the action and ergos but in the last 24hrs it’s developed nasty lock stick. Cleaned and recleaned multiple times. Gets better for a couple flips then back to the way it was. Tried sharpy and pencil which apparently is pointless with the steel insert but I’m desperate. Anyone got a fix? I’m in Canada so avoiding warranty as I may never see it again if our border security has a say. I did send them a message however. Thanks

If you can't exchange it, take it apart and clean it. Put it back together, see what happens.

Played with pivot tightness?

Is there any mark on the blade lockface or lockbar insert?

Never experienced sth like that (either sticky in the beginning but later gone or remaining) The knife does not sound right to me. Try it at your own risk: bend the lockbar out a bit (this will require you to first take out the lockbar insert and stablizer).

If it was fine and then started it makes me think something is loose or something was re assembled wrong. I would take everything apart and carefully re assemble including both sides... Make sure stop bar is good etc. Use alcohol or something on the blade Tang.

If nothing seems to fix you can CAREFULLY AND SLOWLY use a fine stone on the lockbar insert and or blade Tang just to smooth out any burrs

I’ll take it apart again but only reason I took it down the first time was the lock stick that had developed

$350 actually in Canada. Doubt I’ll get an exchange from the retailer given its been taken apart a few times now but I’ll send them a message too. I have the pivot cranked right now, no change. Every time I reassemble it slides fine for 2-3 flips but then right back to sticky.

Update: Placed a tiny amount of gun oil on the tang. Way better now. See how long it lasts. Thought these were supposed to run fine dry but gun oils a cheap fix.

Oil on the lock face or blade tang is no bueno. It will allow for the frame lock to disengage/slip if any closing forces are applied (no idea how much but enough will do it) so I’d take it off if I were you.

Aside from cleaning the blade tang and lock face with a cleaner like alcohol, I really don’t know how else you could resolve this without an exchange.

I’ve had many ZTs over the years and I’ve never had the stick you’re describing on anything with the steel lockbar insert.

I would contact ZT through their site. They will send you a new lock bar insert free of charge. If that fails, you can send it in, but as you say, Canadian customs may be a risk there. Still, there's no harm in trying the first suggestion.

Have you checked the lock bar insert to see if aligned straight and screw is tight? Maybe slightly loose and out of alignment.

Are you saying it of your experience? Never heard that ZT would ship out lockbar inserts to customers.
