I have a 0770CF and was looking at mxggear's standoffs. They say the standoffs wont work with CF version. So if I remove the back spacer and use the standsoffs it should work yes?

I also have the cf version, and I was looking into this prior to your post. So far I haven't found anything that says that they will work.
If They say that they won't work and they make them, I would take their word for it. If they did fit and they state that they wouldn't then they are only taking money from their own pocket...

What makes you think they would work? Anything aside from the standoffs they do make are for a similar, albeit different, model?

Al scaled version has standoffs.

It is possible that the scale thickness is different or that the CF wasn't thought to support the stresses when thinned to have a lip for the screw head to pull against, who knows...

I don't know Why they say that they won't fit, and I haven't found any place that sells ones that do fit the CF version.

Shoot them an email and ask them why they wont, or if they just don't know if they will and are covering their butts.

not enough stability for cf, you best leave well enough alone. the spacer there is well designed and offers toughness, replace them with barrels and you will be hunting scales.

I just got 2 0770 Aluminum scale and they have the spacer now. They also have fancy pivot on one side. All jimping same as 0770cf. So I would think the problem is the CF scales as stated above.

the 0770 and the 0770cf are different in the fact the cf has no aluminum backs on the cf. the 0770 uses inserts for the spring and the lock the cf is thinner and therefore no able to handle what the aluminum would. I own both and the 0770 is a lot heavier and thicker than the cf is.the molded spacer change was probably a design change to save on mfg cost. I have seen one Chinese fake that uses the spacer instead of standoffs as well. my 0770 is in the 1500 range and the 0770cf is around 2500. I like the cf version because it is lighter in the pocket.

Both the aluminum and CF 0770 seem to use the same stainless inserts. I agree again that the CF does not have the strength to use the barrel spacers. I have not seen a clone of the 0770 with the spacer, but I don't think BHQ is selling clones at all much less as genuine ZT knives. I do not understand the reference to 1500 and 2500. The difference in width is about .050". The weight difference is .75 ounce. The 0770 aluminum is for everyday use. I gave up some weight for durability and a lower cost. The 0770CF is a beautiful knife that I personally wouldn't carry. It would become a show piece for me. We both enjoy a great knife design.

The non CF version has an inset on both sides, the cf version has an inset on one side, and flat on the other side, so I had to modify the standoffs with my dremmel and make 1 side flat. I only used 1 standoff and modified the original back spacer to only take 2 screw lengths instead of 3, because the original backspacer was required to keep it assisted. If you don't want it as an assisted, you can modify all 3 mxg spacers to have a flat side and it will work fine.
