Just got one and got what felt like a splinter on a CF scale. Does that stuff 'flake' up? It did not come loose, but poked me pretty good. Can CF be sanded down or what should I do to remedy this?

Thanks!

It certainly shouldn't do that. If it's just a single strand of the carbon fiber that's come unwoven, you can try cutting and/or sanding it off. If you'd rather not mess with it, you can contact the dealer you bought it from to see if they can exchange it. If they can't/won't, then give ZT customer service a call, and they'll take care of you.

Carbon fiber can, will and does "splinter", it's the nature of the material as it has what is commonly known grain much like wood. The dust from CF is extremely toxic if it gets into your lungs, eyes, ears, or mouth. It can cause a lot of health issues, and your body will not react to it as it would say a wood splinter, because it is carbon and ypur body is made of...carbon. ;) if you sand, proceed with caution.

Spoke to ZT Customer Service and they said fine grit sanding. Have mask, will try.

Would sanding it under water be possible? Seems like that would eliminate any aerosolized dust.

I dunno. If it were my knife, I'd either exchange it or send it in to ZT. Interestingly, my 0770CF had a problem with the scale on the presentation (non-locking) side, but it was merely cosmetic. I sent it to ZT and got it back 9 days later with a perfect scale on it. I never spoke to a soul, either. I just filled out the repair form and sent it in. ZT's warranty service is as good as gold!

Hope mine comes back that fast. I had to send mine in because the flipper was rubbing against the inside of the scale. And I would just send it in to ZT. I wouldn't bother messing with it and possibly causing any warranty issues later on.

I think I'd send it in and let a pro handle it. Warranty is part of what you pay for, ya know? And ZT has one of the best in the business.

Finally got to the store to get some 400 grit sandpaper. Gave it a quick touch up and you can never tell it was there. Thanks all for your suggestions.
