hello,

I own a couple of 0801 and they are my benchmarks when it come to flippers and flipping action

How does the 0456 action compare to the 0801?

Is the it any interest to get the 0456?

Pictures are also welcomed ;)

While I'm not a fan of 801 because I don't like the milling at the handle but I would say ZT0456 is one of the best ZT ever along with 0452.

I had one for a while but sold it

Action was great, but the high weight and smaller size turned me off from carrying it

Detent was strong, as with most of my ZT knives

Can anyone shows picture of the 0456 with a 0801 or a 0350 to get an idea of how they compare?

Having owned both I'd say that the action and build on the ZT 0456 is the better one. Not like worlds apart or anything, they're both ZT's but there are definitely some improvements in the action and design of the 0456, IMO.

The detent on MY 0801 is lighter than that on my 0456. I can bump the flipper lightly and get the blade to move, but not fully deploy...mind you, that is intentional - if it were to happen when actually trying to open the blade, I'd chalk it up to laziness or poor technique. The 0456 takes more effort to get the blade moving; but, once it starts, it opens quickly, and locks solidly. (The 0095 is middle ground in both detent and action; and probably my preference for regular carry/use...the 0456 losing out mainly due to blade length)
Weights (as pictured, top to bottom): 5.4 oz, 5.9 oz, and 6.3 oz

I didn't care for it in its original form; but the blackwash version appealed to me. The milling is actually quite comfortable. I liked the 0801 quite a lot, and carried it when I didn't want the bulk of my 0200 (the weight of the 0200 never bothered me - love that knife; but sometimes something a little more subdued is appropriate)

Had the 456 and while I looooved its action and looks, it ended up being just too chunky to carry. Feel it more than any other knife I have carried. Fat,heavy, and was never very secure with that clip.

Check out the 0920. Best flipping action I have encountered.

I own both and like both but as anyone who has been around here knows I beat the 0456 drum pretty darn hard. The 456 is just a great knife for me. Fits my hand great, flips like a champ, and in either 20CV or CTS-204P it has held one heck of an edge. The only legitimate complaint that I hear on the 456 is weight. If the weight is not an issue for the end user then I would say 456 all day long. If weight is an issue and it is down to the 801 and 456 I would say 801 or consider a different ZT all together.

I will add that someone said that the weight made the clip feel insecure. That is an issue I have not had. I have clipped it to my pocket while jogging or Mountain Biking and never once was worried about it coming loose.
