Hey guys. I've been wanting to get an 801 for a while now but I'm not really a fan of the all titanium look. Ideally I would love to get the 0801CF because of the unique look and M390 steel but they are hard to come by and twice the price of a regular 801. Then I came across the 0801BLK which I think looks awesome. But I'm not a fan of coatings because they get scratched and worn after using for a while. So does anyone know what the coating type is on the 0801BLK? If it's DLC I wouldn't be opposed to that because it's actually pretty decent. I had a blacked out PM2 a while back and the DLC coating always looked new even after hard use.

It does look like a DLC, similar to what is used on the 0200, 0350, and 0300 series. DLC doesn't necessarily get worn the way other coatings do. The smoothing in some areas in unavoidable, just like the marks you see on any satin finish or bead blasted knife blade. The marks you might see are what is left of the material you have cut being on the blade.

Take a look at the black wash version, I would think that would be the better option as it already has that worn look

The DLC coating KAI uses in my experience has been excellent. Same goes for Spyderco. Now the BK coating from Benchmade on the other hand is, well...just plain sad.

That's great news and I am glad it's DLC. It's the only coating I would consider. I didn't know the black wash version was also DLC so yeah that's definitely another good option.

I generally like blackwashed knives but the all Black 801 looks mean

Im really glad that I tried out the original 801 when it first came out to realize it just wasnt for me. It saved me a lot of money on all the super nice looking variations.
