I just saw that the zt302 is discontinued. Anyone else hear anything about this.
Thanks.

Sorry that is old news.Looks as it was discontinued at the end of 2010

Get a used 0301, have someone duracoat the scale FDE or coyote. Win. You won't have to pay asking prices on 0302's, and you get the scale color of your choice.

Unless the laser engraved model number on the blade matters.

If you really want a ZT302, you're going to have to pay close to $400 for it on internet auction sites. Is the extra $200 worth that tan scale? Get a ZT301, if you can find it...

I received an order from a customer about doing another 0302 run. Probably will do it up in 2012, just not sure when.

Sounds like a smart customer. Give the NCIS fans what they want.

There is money to be made with other colors of G-10 on most models, if you can find a distributor.

Brown ZT 0200, 0350 or Skyline anyone? I'd buy all 3.:D

How do you explain personal taste? If I remember right, folks practically fought over different color scales for their new 0551's - at half the knife's purchase cost or more - for a piece of circuit board material. I thought it was quite handsome as delivered. Okay, I am a strange duck - I remove the clips when they make it through the front door. I opted for an 0301, despite my first 0300/01/02 sighting being the 02. Neat - but a little loud for EDC. When another batch hits the street, I just hope I can afford one - still like the 0302.

Probably because black scales on knives are a thing of the past, and to some they don't really stand out from the countless black on black or satin/beadblast on black knives available today. Colored scales tend to be exclusive to sprint runs and custom knives, so that's what the vocal enthusiasts are after, something a little out of the ordinary.

Can only speak for myself, but I don't think any of that went through my mind. I doubt if a single person who ever sees my 0551 will have any idea what "sprint run" means.

I'm a form-follows-function guy, and I just don't like decoration on tools. It's bad enough that you can't find a cordless drill that's not pimped up like an athletic shoe these days, but a knife is much more personal. The texturing on the scale was fine, but I didn't care for the brick-wall decoration at all, obviously contrived decoration applied to an otherwise very clean form-follows-function design, it seemed out of place, unnecessary and silly. I have the same reaction to the "swoopy" lines on the Knockout, obviously useless, strongly reminiscent of the decoration on a Coke can, and it screams "consumer product", not "serious tool". I went with the simple, utilitarian frag-pattern scale not so much for what it is as for what it isn't.

I didn't really care for the brick wall decoration - I thought a plain textured scale would have looked better, or the 3d pattern they used on the 0301 and 0200.

To me, form matters to some extent, or I wouldn't have bought the knife in the first place. But I draw the line when things become too gaudy. On some custom knives, with fancy pearl inlays, the wildest pattern of damascus, maybe a few precious stones here and there - I can understand the talent that goes into that and the cost of everything, but it ends up looking too extravagant.

if they bring back the 0302 colors that would be awesome, but I think since ZT is supposed to be law enforcement/military/tactical use based, it really would be 'inappropriate' for the brand to introduce colors on their knives other than black, od green, and coyote brown/tan. hahaha maybe a blue/green to go with digicam though?
