Hello, new here, I bought a ZT9 bayonet for my Mossberg 590 hoping that it would fit. I researched as much as I could about it and got nothing except mixed results. Most websites said that it should fit as it fits M16's and a few said it wouldn't. I hazarded a guess that most websites would be right, I was wrong. It does not fit on a Mossberg 590 without modification to the knife and the gun.
Modifing dosent take to long if you want to do it. Here is how i did it. Sorry if the pics are to big.
Make sure the gun is unloaded before starting.
First off the problem first appeard that the magazine tube cap was the culprit, as it sticks down ever so slightly.
Make sure the nut is tight on there and mark out the outline where the lower part on the other piece is. once that is done take it to a bench grinder or something and carefully grind it of flush.
After that was done i figured it would fit, but it didn't. The ring on the knife is slightly to small on the upper half to fit over the magazine cap. So theres two options here. Trim the cap more or the knife. I chose the knife so other bayos would fit properly.
Now take a dremel and carefully grind the hole bigger. Take a little off at a time tell it fits. It dosent take much
After that it should fit like a glove and ready to use.
And it looks badass.
As for the knife by itself, the 1/4 steel has a very sturdy feel to it and it comes very sharp. I really haven't used it much except to cut some paper and whatever else was around when i got it. It does appear to be a wonderful knife and hope to use it more in the future.
I hope this was informative to people looking for this for their Mossberg's.
