I want to sharpen a ZT 0770CF on a sharpmaker using the medium, fine and ultra fine stones. is this system capable of doing the trick? I am a newbie sharpener and this will be my first time trying to sharpen Elmax.

Should work fine unless it is really dull or needing profiling. I use sharpmaker stones for all my knives.

Did you read the SharpMaker instructions? The micro bevel edge is the 40 degree setting and it doesn't take much pressure to get a good edge with Elmax.

Here is a good set of Sharpmaker videos that may be of assistance. Good luck. Let me know how you made out.

I've touched up the edge on my ZT560 on it a handful of times and never had any trouble. My 560, though, doesn't have the original edge geometry any more. I brought the edge up much closer to 30 degrees inclusive than it originally was. I'm not sure if the 40-degree setting with microbevel for you, I suspect it will. If you need to actually re-profile, though, I'd strongly suggest saving yourself a LOT of irritation and doing the profiling by another method!

To properly sharpen it on such a device you should reprofile it to the right angle that device uses so you fully apex the blade. The medium grit may not be as aggressive as you like so you can get some wet/dry sandpaper and rubber band it onto it and use it like normal to reprofile it. If you don't it will still work but just take a while longer to get good results as you reprofile it.

Reprofiling a knife is one thing, and properly sharpening is another. The OP can easily create a perfectly serviceable secondary bevel using the 40 degree setting and the medium stones, some time, and patience. "Proper" sharpening is a term that is vague and has varied meanings depending on who you ask.

Depends on the edge you're going for. The Sharpmaker will give you a great "quick" touched up edge, but highly refining an edge takes a different system. But yes, the spyderco can totally give a great edge to your ZT

Side question, has the knife dulled significantly or quickly? I'm curious to find out if ZT has fixed their issues with Elmax heat treats
