Hello all,

I live within a few miles of the ocean and salt, decay and rust are a common challenge depending on the blade and I also store many of my blades in Kydex sheaths. What oil do you guys recommend for light coat on blade and spine/tang? Any real-word / affordable solutions would be appreciated.
Thank you, be safe...and stay sharp!

I use Renaissance wax, and it works extremely well.

Frog lube also seems to work great. It came out at or near the top in in terms of corrosion resistance in Projectfarms tests on youtube where he compared a bunch of different rust inhibitors, as well as adayatherange tests where they compared 46 different rust inhibitors.

I still think a wax based solution is the best for long term storage, but it can be difficult to apply in hard to reach areas, like the inside of a liner lock.

So, maybe try coating difficult to reach areas with oil, and use wax on the rest.

I would also suggest investing in a pelican case or something similar.

I tested a bunch of stuff last summer. Now I was leaving them outside in the elements, but anything that was oil based failed pretty fast. Id look for something that's more of a paste. Frog lube, Burts bees wax...yeah the lip balm, and a bees wax mix I made myself all did well. They consistently beat everything else. Vaseline didn't work very well for me. I thought it would, but not so much. If you have some scrap steel laying around you can try a few things and see what works and doesn't in your salt air.

Hornady One Shot Case Lube is a dry lubricant designed for reloading brass cartridges without contaminating powder or primers. On knives, it provides a good protective dry film, but will not discolor wood, bone, or similar natural handle materials.

I know some people put dehumidifiers in their gun safes. Maybe a quick alternative for knives would be to use a few sealed tupperware containers with some moisture absorbing silica gel packs. It's worth a try. It might actually work.

Everybody should definitely check out the threads where photos from the results of the above mentioned corrosion tests were posted.

The Final Round: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/rust-preventive-test-the-final-round.1887225/

It's underrated content. Go see it.
