Scammer

WOW..
eusebiolyle@gmail.com

Almost got me.
I responded to a FS ad and PM'd with an offer and received a email response instead

Problem
I never sent my email.
So I PM'd the seller to respond and It was not him.

Here are screen shots from the scammers email.
He even used the sellers screen name

Are these type of scams (this MO) happening around the internet or is this more of a bladeforums scam?

This type of scam has been happening on the Internet for many years. Unfortunately, it is difficult to stop; so they'll likely continue until people smarten up and stop falling for it.
I also recommend reporting the scam accounts to PayPal and filing with IC3. (A couple of $200 scams might not get much attention; but dozens of them might

Of course they are. On reddits knife_swap members are falling for fake emails claiming to be mods. They request the login info. Get it. Then they host a raffle or sell a few high priced knives. People still fall for the Nigerian prince scam and gift card scams all the dang time. Come on.

Scams happen everywhere, all the time. People need to protect themselves and be more cautious.

My point was, that as a paid member, he has private messaging capabilities. Since it appears some people are not aware, THERE IS NO BLADEFORUMS EMAIL SYSTEM. If you didn't give your email to the seller, they can't email you. (Well , they could search your posts to see if you posted...but - hint - they aren't going to. For the registered members that are likely to have to use emails, don't be in such a rush to send payment - make sure you know that it's the right person.
At the time I was scammed I was not a paying member - learned that lesson and joined.

You don't receive generated email notifications from Blade Forums for posts activity you make or follow? Hmmm - thats weird because I do.

Also, this scammer did research the forum for my previous posts to find my email address - so it does happen. I went back and removed all of my personal info from all my posts - I was naive assuming all were honest.

Shoulda coulda woulda ... I am glad the scammer's schemes are getting a more publicity so others don't fall prey.

Now that I have a gold membership - I can send PMs instead of the messages you can send as a basic member for all to see.

I said he, not you. You originally quoted a response I made to somebody else; so I explained myself.
And, no, I don't get those notifications - I found them annoying from the first forum on which I participated; so I have them turned off...but that is not what I was referring to - those are system generated emails and you can't respond to them (okay, you probably can; but you shouldn't). There used to be a site email system through which members could communicate, regardless of membership - that's what I was saying doesn't exist.

Understood. Just hoping not many more fall victim to these jerks!

The same thing happened to me on Saturday with the email address of the scammer being jackthablade and the paypal account name was Timothy Hollman. The bladeforum solicitation was under the user name of jlester76. The scammer signed one response to me as Jeff. Stay clear. I am finished with PayPal FF.
jpott jpott ,
I realize this is an old thread but I am posting this with hope that you will see it and realize that I am not who scammed you back in March and that you might take the necessary steps to remove your personal information from the public viewing areas of this site and potentially reduce the risk of being scammed in the future.

You replied to a for sale post that I created this morning labeling it as a scam. It was not a scam. I couldn't figure out why you replied with that comment so I did a search and found this thread. I assure you the person who you sent a payment to, referenced in the above post from March 27, 2024 was not me. The only history I see of you and I interacting is where I had posted a Cooper Dollar Knife around that same time so I assume that is where your frustration stems from.

My assumption of how the whole thing went down is:
1.) Scammer saw your "take" comment on my for sale post with my reply that it was already sold but that I would reach out if that deal fell through.
2.) Scammer then saw your reply "Thanks for getting back to me. I'm ready to go, if available."
3.) A quick search of your profile on this site revealed your postings, some of which include your email address along with your first and last name.
4.) Scammer then sent you an email, claiming to be me and hooked you for a F&F payment with no knife in return.

If the deal I made had fallen through, I would have contacted you in the original for sale post where we had already communicated. If you were a paying member and had the ability to send Direct Messages I would have contacted you in that manner. It really is worth the small cost of a paid membership to have the ability to direct message.

I suggest going back and removing your personal information (email address and name) from any posts that you have made in the past. This is easily done by clicking the "edit" button in the lower left of each post.

I hope that you don't experience anything like this again.

JLester is out here doing the lord's work by not only defending his name (potentially his livelihood) but at the same time trying to help some poor guy that got scammed. I have been a BF lurker for years and sort of interaction is why I got an account here.

First, stop and think. Is there a reason the seller would have my email address?

If you did post your email in the sales thread, then reply via email to anyone who emails you and says he is the seller. Ask them to email you a fresh picture of the knife in question with a word of your choosing hand written on a piece of paper placed next to the knife in the picture.

Better is to buy a basic membership for $10 and communicate only via PM.
