•• Knives of the 2008 Blade Show ••

I agree with you, Kevin. Never really understood the Brend phenomenon, though I'm not qualified to judge, since I've only looked at photos. I like this one best because it fits my preference for classic/traditional knives and I love stag. The $8,500 price--no comprendo.

Les is a Brend aficionado, so I expect him to jump in and lash us with his bull-whip citing brilliant grinds and such.

Being a Jason Knight acolyte, among a few others, I was thrilled to see his 2 suave blades.

Another knife that loomed larger each tour (3 so far) was Brion Tomberlin's pristine beauty glowing without makeup or pretension and flowing more languid than a celestial stream. Dark handles in general and African blackwood in particular are having their way with me now and pushing the once favored lighter woods to the back of the line.

Thanks for sharing the fruits of your labor Coop! The Brend Bowie is simply amazing... The high hollow grind with the Sheffield-style clip looks fantastic in damascus. I would gladly fork over my wallet -- if Walter were to make me one of these with his traditional full tang and some ivory slabs :)

Ken, Do yourself a favor and try to check one out in person! The photos are great but a Walter Brend knife in hand is like an extension of your arm. Flow is off the charts.

Charles - I have picked some up. They are well made, and the grinding is obviously very good, and the design is often superb, however they are very heavy - much heavier than they need to be IMHO. They look much better than they feel in the hand.

Just got my internet connection back after moving to the new property we just bought. What a treat to return to here on BF. A truly excellent collection of knives expertly photographed. Thanks Coop for sharing this with us.

My only complaint would be that, having just bought a new place, I can't afford any of them! :)

Great stuff, a pleasure to look at.

I also have to admit I have just seen these photos, on a full screen. Amazing work Coop! Thank you. A real treat, seeing this fine group! Except for that one knife.. ;):D

Bravo!
Coop, that's an incredible amount of work, executed beautifully.
My hat is off to you.
Thanks for sharing.

Now for next year, how about setting up Susan with a portrait setup so that while you're photographing the knives, she can photograph the makers. Think about it. ;)

Once again, I wish to thank everyone for their kind comments. I am proud that the images have been viewed by so many. (it appears that there have been upwards of 400 views on individual photos!) This is the kind of promotion that supplements magazine exposure, and may be the only exposure I CAN guarantee.
