“knife without a mark, a valueless knife”

good question. who else is stamping still on high end or even low end steels in current production? true stamp i mean?

Isn't Case's mark a stamp on both their regular production and Tony Bose line? If it's an etch, it doesn't go away with use.

dont know but not talking Tony bose line was talking their southern grind one with s35vn steel...looks like deep etch maybe?

Thanks for the feedback guys.. We don't see hard stamping of exotics coming back, but from your observations, it looks like we need to go darker on the etch. We will get this looked at. 420Hc will always be hard stamped except for the occasional time when we miss a stamp and have to laser it..

Please put a date code on the deeper etch then....

Thanks for checking in Jeff.
Ya deeper, darker to the point it could not be easily removed even if one were to polish it up a little would be good.

That's great news, I've been planning to buy my dad a 110 as he's been without one since all his knives " walked away " from his childhood bedroom when he left for the ARMY in '78.
Knowing one would have ebony scales plus still be stamped as it should be is a good thing.

My God! That is a heck of a long time to go without a 110! Please get him one ASAP! And thank him for his service from me and my family. Ed

Will do.

It's definitely been a long time
he left with a smaller Buck lockback in his pocket presumably a 503 or 501 that he later sold to a friend, but all he can tell me is " it was about this long " so I probably won't be getting him one of those.

I've got some other birthdays to buy for and I just got him a US ARMY case knife for his birthday a couple weeks ago, but he'll definitely be getting one for Father's day.

I was very surprised and disappointed when I received my first non-stamped Buck. I considered this a move backwards and wondered about the health of the company. Then I pulled out my Benchmade knives and realized there wasn't a stamped blade in the bunch. Many other companies and custom makers are moving away from stamping blades. The real issue is durability. I want a knife that maintains it's identification markings with normal use over many years. I no longer care if that's a stamp, etch or laser engraving.

I wouldn't care how it's done either as long as it was as durable as the stamp. What about when the blade gets scratched up or a little rust on it and you want to clean it up or polish it up? These new laser marks will be gone!
