I don't know how prices and selection might compare to Flatground, but Nick Allen (aka NWA) gave me outstanding service when I ordered some from him a while. He used to have an ad on the knife maker's for sale area.

Nick Allen can get you some for a good price. Also, Aldo likes O-1, and can get you a sweet deal on some.

I get mine at fastenals because it is local and the prices for precision ground flat stock appear very competitive. Drill stock is also pretty cheap.

i second fastenal. i ordered 2 sticks of W1 and had it in three days.... picked it up in the store and NO shipping! and like Pike said the prices are competitive.

Years ago and before W2, I used to get all my surface ground 01 from K&G. They had the best prices at the time.

You will not beat the price of Flatground. Much cheaped than Admiral and excellent service.

Flatground is $60.00 cheaper than Admiral on oversize o-1. The fastenal guys around myplace are pretty pricey on everything else so I haven't even checked with them. Tri star is about twenty minutes away.

The goodnews is that O-1 is actually quite easy to find. If you see a steel or supply company selling "oil hardening" tool steel, chances are better than 90% it is going to be O-1, so you can shop around a lot.

I've been using D-2 andA-2. But I want to start doing my own heat treat. Plus I like the fact that the knife or hatchet doesn't have to be the same hardness.I'm planning on trying some refractory clay on the spine and O-1 seems to be the best candidate.

01 will harden under the clay. It is too deep hardening.

Use W2, W1 or 1095...
