Is the 0400 like a "Redheaded stepchild" of the Kershaw line? I don't see a lot mentioned about it. The only thing I would change on mine is a clip for deeper pocket carry.

I would not call it the red headed step child. It was the first lower cost ZT available and I owned four of them when they first came out including an incredibly odd 100% sterile version that no one even knew how it existed. IMHO its just a model that ran its course and doesn't get talked about that much simply because it has not been in production for a number of years. And now as far as ZT flippers go it seems the KVT knives are getting more love on the forums.

It is a little ungainly, but then so am I, we go well together. The action is smooth as melted butter.
Thanks for the replies.

It's in the same category as the 0780 and 0700, relatively short lived before ZT moved more upscale.

Huh. I hadn't seen any of these ZTs before. They're certainly different and don't really seem to fit in with ZT's current lineup. Interesting, though...

The early ZTs are very interesting. I have a 0400; it's a safe Queen, so I can't speak to it's edc-ability, but I did edc a 0780 for quite a while, and it's a great knife.

Heres my ZT 0780 compaired to a Paramilitary 2.

It's actually a really great knife. It's like a Kershaw Skyline but ZT style.

If we're talking about obscure ZT knives, give the Zero Tolerance 0610ST a quick Googling.

It's a long discontinued step child of Ken Onion. It was an awesome knife, I love mine. It's part of the ZT line though, not the Kershaw line (2 different styles and lines). Like Ford vs Lincoln

I miss the old days of ZT. It was kind of cool to say "is that a football made of steel" instead of my woman saying "that's so pretty".

I miss old zt. they were so unique, and wicked. Now they're a bit boring IMO

I really like the solid lock up on the 0300 series, no lock rock, lock slip, nothing. That was a true tank, the 0200 was the same way, and now the 0909 is another one that is as solid as can be. NO lock rock, wobble, play. This is an excellent knife.

I don't know if I would call the 0780, 0700 and 0750 'early ZTs'

They were like middle era ZTs.

I believe they all came out after the 0500 and either right after or right before the 0560.

They were discontinued right after they were released as ZT changed directions and went more upscale.

But they aren't exactly the 0300, 0350, 0200, 0500 early ZTs.

I always loved the zt0400. And i cant believe i have never heard of the 0610 until now. I thought ive seen them all. Got another one to try and track down.
