0560 issue

holy crap. I really didnt even believe you when you said what problem you were having. I thought to myself "this guy HAS to be doing something wrong" Turns out I was the wrong one here. Good on you for sending it in. Thats inexcusable. EDITED: And looking over your video again it seems like the lock face of the blade is much steeper than mine. Its almost like a ramp on yours. Simply crazy

Yeah, people thought I was moving the lock bar. I just didn't want to cut myself, and also in the video I was trying different vantage points to try and safely disengage the lock bar, thus the straining in certain areas.

It's okay. I simply thought the order of kai fanclub refused to believe there could be any faults with a ZT product. I thought to myself; "just wait until one of these fans has a problem with their knife." I talked to Thomas, he's a good dude. It will be going out in the mail today. Albeit I never got that shipping label I requested. Regardless, he has put forth a lot of time discussing the matter.

My 0561 has rock lock. I've been down this road with my Benchmade Alias. It will be fixed. I think it boils down to that final step in production where an employee has to mate the blade tang to the lock bar. Or do they even do that on a production knife? I Know I've seen the Chris Reeve video where they have a dedicated employee performing the process and almost quadruple checking the lock fit.

Just so you know, your video and the one posted in this thread are not even remotely close to being the same...

Mine was doing the same thing as yours. I sent it in and they replaced the locking side. It was a 10 day turnaround. Now, it is perfect. This was within the last month.

Sent it out today. I hope she returns soon. The pain in my thumb and forefinger is starting to fade.

Having the same issue with my high sn 0560 started as lock rock and has now progressed (with minor use) to complete lock failure with >2 or 3 lbs on the blade spine. I managed to filet my thumb open. I'll be emailing KAI CS for a repair order. I'm happy with the 0560 otherwise but feel like a Ti knife in this price range should have a steel insert in the lockbar face, or at least some factory carbidization. It would have saved me some dermabond.

ZT carbidizes all of their titanium lock faces...

Guys,

There is really nothing to discuss here. I don't want to be the thought police, but I am seeing too many warranty related threads lately. Feel free to PM or email me if you have any questions.

If you experience problems, please contact our warranty department before you start posting about it here. They are great to work with, and they want to make sure that any problems you have with your knives get resolved. See the links in my signature line for info on how to contact our warranty department.

Folks - I am re-opening this thread. I still don't feel like this forum is the place to discuss your warranty issues, but I want us to have a level of transparency here as well.

I want all of you to know that we care deeply about making sure our customers are satisfied. As I said before, if you ever have a lockup issue, PLEASE send the knife in for repair. We have made nearly 7000 of the 0560/0561's to date. When you make that many, a few problems are inevitable. I am disappointed to read about these problems, but rest assured, we will make sure they are made right. As always feel free to PM or email me with whatever questions you may have.

- Jim

Personally, I think that it helps for knife owners to post about problems with their knives. At least, I know that I am not crazy thinking that I am the only one to have that problem.

Kai has always done right on my limited issues on the many knives that I own and have owned.

Out of all of the knives, I have only had 2 issues. The first thing that I usually do is look for anyone who might have had the same problem and to find out if it is a simple fix. If not, then I send it in. I believe that the sharing of this information helps both the user and the manufacturer by limiting the number of knives coming in to warranty. It is aggravating having to send your knife in even though you know that it will be fixed.

This forum is an excellent resource for just about any information you could want. There is bound to be someone with an answer for you.

I do agree with Jim though about contacting the warranty department first, before posting questions about an issue (or possible issue). There are numerous reasons for contacting them first. A couple are - if there is a simple solution, they will be able to walk you through it quickly or be able to determine that it is necessary to send it in. If there is really an issue with the knife, they really do need to know about it and it would be much more useful to them to see the knife before it has been tampered with (disassembly, bending the lock bar, fooling with the detent, etc). I would take what Jim said at face value, they really do want to make sure that you are satisfied with your knife.

So again, contact warranty first, search the forum second, and finally post your question.

Remember, as much good advice as I see in most threads, I still see plenty of bad advice as well, and it is not always so easy to tell which is which.

I had a number of break-in issues with the 561 and posting about them helped me determine that they were, in fact, break-in issues. The detente is still a bit weaker than the average 56x, but the up side is that I can use both the flipper and the thumbstud to open it. Can't wait to get the 566!

I don't think anyone is saying do not post those questions here, we are just saying contact Kai first (they do have an 800 number on their contact page). If they can't answer the question to your satisfaction then SEARCH the forum (odds are your question has been asked multiple times), and finally post the question.
Don't forget, Jim also very kindly offered to answer questions PM'd or emailed to him.
