Did a little oxi clean job on the titanium of an 0550 and 0561, and acid etched the blades on both knives (0550 still drying). both titanium and blades came out super dark. Sorry, didnt have the 0550 titanium scale in the pics but I will have them posted as an update tommorow night after the 0550 and 0561 blades, and the 0550 scale are stonewashed. Already have a kriptoglow scale for the 0550 and the 0561 scale is soon to come. Pretty rough and rugged, and I love it! To each his own i suppose.

Did you polish the logos off or did they get eaten away in the acid? Or are they just really hard to see in the photos now but still somewhat there?

They probably got eaten off by the acid. It looks like he might have used ferric chloride and that's some pretty tough stuff. Really love how the knives turned out.

Update.....Stone wash came out awesome. The oxiclean really darkened up the titanium. Too bad my craptastic camera couldnt capture it. Oh well.

That does look good. I just modded my blade, dremel style.

Interested in the finish you have done. Can you give more details, or point to a place that explains it?

Thanks

Use oxiclean name brand and soak titanium for 1.5 hours. Then use pcb etchant to soak blade in for 45 mins. Be sure to cover pivot with fingernail polish. Then I stonewashed it in a ceramic medium for 5 mins.

Industrial 30 gallon tumbler. But the dryer would work just as we'll. might just take a little longer.

Just watched some videos on how to do this. Now I just have to get the guts to do it to my brand new 0561.

Sorry for my short responses earlier today guys, i was at work and its hard to to type on my i phone and keep an eye on my mill. The whole proccess is extremely easy and fun. AS FOR THE TITANIUM...I bought the smallest container of OXICLEAN, which was way too big for the two scales i had to do. I took a pyrex dish (like a pie dish) and added 3 cups of hot water, and an entire scoop of oxiclean and stirred it up. (Didnt know how much to use so i figured A LOT was enough). Then i just soaked the scales, outward side up) for 1.5 hours. Then took them out and washed them off with soap and water. They were DARK and i loved it. My pictures stink so the scales and blade look ehhhh.... but the scales had a deep copper undertone in the sun and they looked freakin awesome. AS FOR THE BLADES....I covered the pivot area in fingernail polish to preven the ferric chloride for affecting that area, then put dental floss through the pivot hole, and submersed the blades in the etchant in a jar ( hanging from the floss) for 45 mins. They, also came out dark. I stone washed them in ceramic medium, which removed the fingernail polish, as well as let the shine from the blade come through the etching. And BAM!!!! A sweet zt mod.

Here are some better shots, so that ya'll can get a better idea of how dark the scale and blade came out.

Awesome!! Thank you for showing!

Ill probably try this on a tenacious first (great knife. Easier to replace$ wish) and maybe do it to my 560.

I want to go with a real nice Fallout 3 feel and look :)
