06

0-6 is a graphitic tool steel and the pockets of graphite act to make it a free machining steel. I never recommend any of the free machining types as they have inherent brittleness. There are better choices .

Ya, what meet said. I do have a block of O2 which a lot of knife makers have been trying to get me to part with.

better choices for what mete? I need to make a slider plate for hydraulic clamps

You should have mentioned the use ! I used to work for Timken Co who developed the graphitic tool steels so I am familiar with them. For a slider plate O-6 or A-10 would work well. I donn't know where to get it at this point other than try steel suppliers or contact Timken.
