Taking the advice from DHIII, I am going to make several paring/kitchen utility knives before I go forward with my slipjoints. Anyone know of a source for thinner stock like 1/16" or so? Also has it down to 3/32" but I'd like a hair thinner.

If I remember correctly Jantz has some 1/16" 1095 and Chuck Bybee at Alpha knife supply has a large variety of steels in thicknesses less than 3/32".

I would also suggest 1/16" PG ground O1.Makes a wicked paring knife

Thanks guys. Stan, if only I knew a way to get some 1/16" O1....... ;)

Ps, I got your email.

I emailed Aldo. He has 1/16" 1095. I've never worked any 1095, but at least it's cheap enough to buy a bunch at once.

Be aware that you really need a HT oven for either of these steels. Especially 01.

I send all my steel out. I have only used A2 and a small amount of O1. I wanted to get away from precision ground stock. It's expensive, and I don't need to use it for these paring knives.

I like my knives to cut. I don't do my own ht. ;)

It looks like I will be ordering several sticks of 1/16" and a few of 3/32" from Aldo.

Wow, those are some insane prices for 01! Here's the cheapest place I've found all sizes of 01. Plus, they've always shipped my stuff quick!

Amtek Tool 1/16 x 1 tool steel

1/16 x 1 x 36 = $12 and change. I received some 3/32 01 from them a while back and it was Starret brand 01. Nice looking stuff!
